If you're in the UK, then the answer may be your local supermarket. Nechbi.com report: "If you fancy a Pocket PC with GPS then the place to go to is LIDL. The cheap German supermarket chain is offering a 400MHz Typhoon PPC with Windows Mobile 2003, 64Mb RAM, 32 ROM and Maps for the whole of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on 256MB Compact-Flash-Card! Only Ģ349 from 8th April 2003. Get it before it goes!" So there!

Exit Stage Left at Lidl

You can see the full specs at Lidl's website. This thing includes maps for the whole of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on 256MB Compact-Flash-Card. Pretty good going really! Bear in mind that this is only available from stores in London, the South East and the South West of England and South Wales. I wonder if Lidl will ever get round to helping technically lacking & lost Scottish, Welsh speakers, Northern Irish and Northerners.

We previously posted that Evesham and Halfords are also selling similar units, but with integrated GPS across the UK – for slightly more mulla, naturally. Who would have thought it?

I can see the shopping lists already; "250g of ham, milk, a pda, flour .."

We also have had the Lidl invasion here in Finland - it'd be neat if they'd start importing that cheap german electronics, too.

Maybe they could start selling these by the pound?

Nothing new. The aldi here in the Netherlands had pocket pcs with GPS a couple of times. The lidl also sells the pocket pcs here

Lidl has already had an interesting AMD 64-bit computer and now this?
They are sure beating the Citymarket with some heavyduty computing! Fujitsu-Siemens PCs from the last millennuim are a piece of junk that shouldn't even be sold anymore-- still, Kesko are selling it for a way higher price than they should. :?

Also (a bit OT), second class fruits sold by "normal" Finnish stores are nothing compared to the fruits sold by Lidl. Lidl has better quality fruits for a way better price... 8O
In short, Finnish stores have a lot to learn from Lidl -- and maybe Lidl has something to learn from them too (consumer service, at least).

A "bit" off-topic, eh? :D

My only rant is that when I try to buy the fair-trade bananas, only to find out that most of the time they look like someone has been jumping on them.

Maybe it's a some sort of industrial sabotage? :worried:

Sorry lads, but to me this thing does NOT have GPS.

First this is a rebadged ASUS MyPal 620 which has no buil-in GPS, then the Lidl page does not even mention GPS anywhere on the page.

It's Necbi who mentions it, but it looks like they wrongly equate maps with GPS 8O.

Well, the Lidl website says this:

Satellite Navigation System with Pocket PC

....

The complete system
- For navigation, route planning, mobile data management and processing,
for playing MP3 and Windows Media 9™ files
- NEW! Including map
- Pre-installed Software
- Maps for the whole of Great Britain and Northern Ireland on 256MB Compact-Flash-Card

They don't mention GPS, but what else is a Satellite Navigation System?

Unless Lidl's website is wrong?

Unless they mean that the Satellite Navigation system is on a card....? :?

Satellite Navigation System with Pocket PC

The clue is in the 'with' I'm afraid. This Pocket PC does not have built-in GPS but comes bundled wth GPS.

Well, thatīs my doubt too. Where is the GPS there, I think that any GPS need an antenna and I donīt see any in that PDA.

The original post read "If you want a Pocket PC with integrated GPS, where do you go? ", so actually, I did. :)

Bundled seems to be a good description of what they are offering - what what I have seen. If anyone has any more details then please let me know and Ill clarify the post. I'm just going on what I can tell from the two sources.

I wonder what their support is like...

Oh poo, my mistake (I seem to say that a lot recently...!)

Indeed, since they seem pretty meticulous in their listing and since they don't mention any GPS electronics (mouse-sized for example) and because the PPC does not integrates GPS electronics as well, so either they forgot to list it or think that the mapping software is enough .

Only somebody from the area who could go check (or call) could really make sure!!

correct me if I am wrong but that PDA looks identical to Asus Mypal 620
