I'm trying to find an MP3 player that can be navigated without the stylus. I need something to use in my car. I want to assing one of the hardware buttons to the program, and then (once it has launched) use only the direction pad and/or the hardware buttons (under the assumption that the app temporarily "re-tasks" them for itself) to navigate songs and start/stop them. I don't want to try tapping with the pen while I'm driving...
Any suggestions?

You don't need another program, can use the hardware buttons to navigate in Windows Media Player. Just click the 'Tools' menu, go to 'Settings' -> 'Buttons' and then select the buttons you want to map for each function.

You can try Pocket Music (http://www.pocketmind.com/pmfp.htm), in addition to being able to use the HW buttons it has a special interface made for car use:

This is exactly what I do with my Jornada when using it in the car. I have the dpad mapped for volume up/down and previous/next track. The action button is mapped to Play/Pause. Of course the Jornada also has a scroll button on the side which I have mapped to the volume control and is very handy as it means I do not have to upon the screen cover to adjust volume.
