Hi all,

hoping someone can help me with a couple of questions,

Does anyone know if its possible to install applications on to a pocket pc instead of using active synch, maybe you can go on to the web and d/l an app like you would do on a normal pc .. or maybe there are other ways i have done a few searches but not had much luck :(

Also does anyone know if u can get shockwave player for pocket pc (macromedia site says no) or if not pocket pc then CE, smart phones, PDA's or windows embeded ? or if their are plans for it to be released on the pocket pc format?

thanks if anyoen can help

Sosages~

Yes it is possible to install apps to your PPC without using Activesync, but only if the developer sets it up that way. If you download a regular executable file, then you will have to install via AS. But, some developers also make available CAB files specific to your processor type. If you see that one of these is also available in adition to the executable, then you can download it instead, directly to your PPC, and then execute it from there to install the app.

I am not sure about the answer to your second question, but I hope this helps with the first.

Welcome to PPCT!

The latest version of Wisbar Advance is available to download as a cab file here (http://www.lakeridgesoftware.com/downloads/wisbar.html)

woo first post :)

When you download an executable, the cab file (the file that is installable from the PPC) is compressed within the EXE file, and in some cases you can extract the cab file out using winrar for example. In other instances, where you have to run the executable in order to get at the cab file (the normal way of installing which requires an AS connection) the cab file is saved into the program files\Microsoft ActiveSync folder either as a CAB file or as a CAB file within a new folder - you could access the CAB's directly from here

Hope this helps
