The Technology Preview Kit for Windows CE 5.0, formerly code-named Macallan, is being provided to developers attending the Embedded Systems Conference in San Francisco. Microsoft plans to make it available for download later in the week through its Microsoft Developer Network site for embedded developers."<br /><br />New features include a revamped driver model, security enhancements, Direct3D mobile, and others. Presumably, the Pocket PC platform will eventually be switched from WinCE 4.2 to WinCE 5.0, but I'd expect that process to take a year or two.

Id assume it would be sooner then that.
Like spring 2k5 or something as WM2k3SE doesnt have native support for 3d cards etcetera yet.
So I assume that SE is a stop gap to perfect Windows Mobile for PPC until the new OS is finished and based on WinCE5

and I saw on Neowin a link to the ZDNet UK (http://news.zdnet.co.uk/0,39020330,39149957,00.htm) version of the article.

So - go ahead folks - get the beta, create the next killer app.

Bring the app to market, and pray that any significant base of installed users will think your app is cool enough to pay for.

While you're at it - don't bother hooking up with an OEM, because they won't bother keeping users purchases updated to the OS you're targeting...

Hmmmm - wonder how many OEMs will continue to alienate their way out of market share?

How many iPAQs does it take to fill the Albert Hall - I'd love to tell you all...

I said a year or two, now didn't I? :razzing: Seriously, it was a rule of thumb. I have no idea what the next Pocket PC OS will be after WM2003SE (even as an MVP!) so your guess is as good as mine.
