View Full Version : PocketPC.com - Ironically one of the worse PPC sites around...

Why is this site so consistently behind the times?
There is STILL no information on WM2003 SE on there. When WM2003 came out it was probably a few days later by the time they had it updated.
There have been plenty of other times too when major events in the Pocket PC world just go un-noticed on PocketPC.com
Does Microsoft just do this site in their spare time???
well, if you'll notice, the site is run by Microsoft, and its a product information site rather than a news site, and as such, they wouldn't be printing rumors and other things not "officially" announced.

Uh, PPC2003se has already been anounced by Microsoft. He has a valid point.

And like I said, AFTER the launch of WM2003. Also a Microsoft product :)
Surely they should be one of the first with official confirmation. Not one of the last.

I agree.. that is the the worse Pocket PC site out there. A few months ago, when I was researching Pocket PCs, I went to that site looking for Microsoft's "Palm vs. Pocket PC" comparison. Didn't find one... In addition, their handhelds information is horrible. Oh, and they don't seem to have any sort of area that just takes you on a tour of the OS... no, it's a pretty useless site.
Google was far more useful. I just searched for the handhelds I was interested in and read reviews like that.

In defense of PocketPC.com, since there are no shipping devices today with WM2003SE, it's probably not useful for consumers just yet. If WM2003SE devices are shipping and it's not updated then, that will be sad.

Perhaps we should all petition MS to allow the pocketpc.com site to have some areas of user-generated content to make it more timely and accurate.

I'm not sure if that's the answer as there are plenty of decent "public" sites like this one.
But it would just be nice if it seemed like Microsoft were interested in keeping it up to date rather than updating it every 3 months or so.

It used to be more active, but I think MS scaled it down when it refolded it back into the Microsoft site. In fact, Jason wrote for PocketPC.com back in the day. :)

Its always ironic to talk about 'back in the day' when that was less than 5 years ago... but I use it all the time as well.

Not when you're teaching undergraduates, it's not. ;) 5 years ago, some of these people weren't using computers. 8O A majority of them don't know DOS. 8O 8O

Hey, I'm an undergrad CS major! I grew up with DOS! Then Windows 3.1, then Windows 95, then 98, then 2000, then XP, then Linux, then..... Mac OS X.... :D
I used to love DOS back in the day. It was fun configuring the memory just to get Tie Fighters to play correctly.
