Has anyone here been able to get an external HD with PCMCIA adapter to work with a 55xx series iPAQ?

I know that the storage brick works for PPC2002, and there is a driver for WM2003, but it doesn't work with the 55xx series.

I have read on other forums where people have been able to make registry changes on their iPAQ, and get their HD to work with WM2003, without the aid of another driver. I posted for further explanation on those forums, but haven't gotten a response yet.

Moved to the iPAQ forum. :-)

I believe it depends on the PCMCIA card you are using, and the drive. I have done it with a CMS Easy Bundle card, and an IBM 12 GB drive on a 5555. It just plugs in. Nothing special needs to be done.

I hear that you have a better chance of this working if you use an IBM drive and not a Toshiba. I don't know if that is true or not.

My impression is if your combination draws to much power, it will be disabled by the OS.

OK, I'm using an EXP HD Traveler E 20GB drive.

I have read that others have gotten this drive to work, and it was listed as working with the storage brick driver for PPC2002.

Originally, it would only spin up for a couple of seconds, and then give me the unknown device prompt (asking for a driver name). Now, it will spin up and stay spinning, but it doesn't appear in file explorer, or resco explorer.

I read somewhere about a USB mass storage driver for pocket PC.

Does anyone know any details on this?

I've got an ipaq 4150.

Thanks for the likk, but that only works for devices with a CF card slot. Mine only has SDIO.

I'm sorry, I don't know of anything that will work with the 4150.
None of the HP PDA's support USB hosting, and I don't know of any SD USB host adapters yet.

Can anyone help me to get this EXP HD Traveler to work with my 5550?
Has anyone found registry settings that work?
I have played around with registry settis and was able to get it to spin up, but not appear in file explorer.
thx

OK, I got my 20GB HD working with my 5550 using EXDRIVE.DLL.

The only problem now is, I can only get it to work with my PCMCIA expansion pack. I can't get it to work using my CF to PC card adapter with my PI dual CF sleeve.
Can anyone help?

I want to be able to do this in the car, so I can use the HD in one CF slot, and my Voyager VGA card to output the video to my daughter's portable DVD player, playing movies that I converted with DVD to PPC.
TIA.
