msn messenger help

I'm trying to set up MSN Messenger on my Ipaq 5555. Set it all up on my desktop (v6.1) with an account which works fine. When signing in on the Ipaq I get the error message -

'Logon to MSN Messenger Service failed because the service is not compatible with this version of the program.'

How do I get around this? Is there an update to the Ipaq version that will work?
