changing format of SD card

i formatted my SD card via pocket mechanic for "digicam" and used fat16 and 16k clusters... snapped some pics on the digicam.. everything ok... but when i connect the card to the PC i end up with some garbage files. I used the cable from the digicam, used my PPC, but nothing. Then i realised that i think i should have put 32k clusters instead of 16..

so now i have the pictures on the digicam, can view them, but can not transfer them..

any advice guys?

well, i just formatted the card and just going to redo it.. bummer, lost a lot of time because of this.

Why'd you have to do this? Unless you have a very picky digital camera, it shouldn't matter what format you're using.

Nevertheless, this is a topic better suited for our sister site, Digital Media Thoughts (www.digitalmediathoughts.com). :D On Pocket PCs, you should be able to use both FAT16 and FAT32 and a variety of cluster sizes without any problems.

This isn't that unusual. MP3 players and Digital Cameras often have limited implementations of FAT and prefer you to format the cards in the camera or MP3 player. Moreover even if you do this if you write to the card with say a pocket PC and then put it back in the camera some devices wont like that either. It's annoying isn't it. I was actually Googling for a tool that could reformat without deleting today (I doubt one exists) but couldn't find one.

i reformatted the card because i heard horror stories about sandisk and thought i'd reformat it "just in case"..

the funny thing is, the CAMERA would read/write just fine, its when i tried to get the pics onto the PDA/laptop when it wouldn't work.

oh well.. lesson for me.
