I recently purchased a iPAQ 1930, and I was really suprised by the sound quality put out by it. I use Sennheiser headphones and the sound output from mp3 was great, comparable to my desktop sound card(GametheaterXP). It got me thinking, if I get myself a SD card for it, I can use it as a mp3 player. What I need to know, is if the read rates on the SD card would be sufficent to play mp3's. If I've done my math correctly it should be fine, but I would like to get this confirmed by somebody who has done it, before I go spending money. Any help appreciated.

You'll be fine. I play music stored on an SD card all the time, as do countless others across the globe.

Enjoy! 8)

If many MP3 players use SD Cards to store music, then there should't be a problem using it in PPC! Well, anyway I've got about 65 songs stored on my SD Card and apart from one little incident I haven't had any problems.

:!: SD card is just fine for music- I've tested three different cards, 2 from SanDisk and one from PNY on two different IPAQs and ranging from 64MB to 128MB to 256MB. Each worked flawlessly with MP3 files of varying sizes and bitrates.
Warning: you'll fill your card up quickly with music! 256MB or 512MB is recommended. 50 MP3s on my 256MB card and I've got 87MB left.

Reading music files from a SD Card is not a problem... and encoding the files into another format is sometimes even better... I myself like to use ogg... especially at low bitrates... I can pack in a lot of audio with ogg... my hour long audio books encoded at 64kbps and 44.1khz are only about 18mb each...
