ok, lets start... i know that theres a bunch of topics on this, as ive spent the last hour or two looking through a bunch, but the thing that most of them require is enabling of internet connection sharing. unfortunately, whenever i enable ics, my internet disconnects. i believe this is because of the terms of service of my university connection, something about not allowing more than one computer to be connected to one internet connection. i have yet to try this at my home, so that will have to wait until this weekend.

basically, im trying to connect my pda to my laptop via wifi so i can sync and use internet (im sure you understood this from the title). when i sync using usb, internet works perfectly. im hoping that this implies that my pda can connect via wifi the same way. i have tried with and without wep, and both ways my computer recognizes my pda (it says "wireless network connection (peer to peer), speed 11.0 mbps, signal strength excellent). unfortunately i cannot sync nor connect to the internet (apparently because i do not have ics enabled).

now, ive read in one post that there was a work around, and that ics enabling was not necessary (wasting another hour or so finding the post is quite meaningless, but i will do so if it will help). this person stated that you could just connect to the internet after syncing via activesync. this raised my hopes. what i would like to know is how i can sync my pda via wifi WITHOUT enabling internet connection sharing. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks.

edit: i am using an hp ipaq 2210 with a sandisk connect plus cf wifi card and a toshiba p20 laptop (windows xp home) with built in wifi.

edit 2: ok... i just restarted my pc and active sync works... wow, restarts do wonders... anyways, im still not able to connect to the internet... not sure about how im supposed to do this... again, any help is really helpful.

edit 3: dont you love it when people answer their own questions? apparently i cannot use internet by activesync passthrough over wifi, and i must settle for internet connection sharing (ics). again, this doesnt work, so if anyone could tell me why my regular wired internet (university lan) disconnects whenever i enable ics, you'll receive my everlasting gratitude ^^.

here is a link to some freeware that you can install on your laptop. On the handheld device set up the connection to use a proxy server. You can then access the internet via the handheld without ics.

for the free proxy software goto
