I am having problems installing the Outlook 2K2 critical update and/or the Office XP SP3 updates that just came out.
It is asking me for the orig CD and I installed Outlook 2002 from the CD that came with my ipaq. I also have Office XP and the CD for that as well.
When I installed Office, I already had installed Outlook so I installed the Office Suite w/o Outlook.
Neither update appears to be working. Office XP SP3 says unsuccessful and the Outlook update by itself says it can't find the application.
Has anybody run into this sort of thing, especially with installing Outlook 2002 from the ppc CD?
Thanks,
Tony

Tony,
Did your version of Office XP come with Outlook? I am running with Office 2003 Pro and I use that version of Outlook to sync with my iPaq, it is 2 years newer software but no problems. It sounds like you did get Outlook with your office, so don't even bother with the 2002 disc. XP is newer a version anyways.
I think there could be a problem regarding the software, I don't think it likes the Outlook 2002 and then Office XP?
I can tell you that Office 2003 Pro is really cool, why don't you just splurge and get that instead?

Justin might be right -- there might be some confusion as to what CD was used to install Office/Outlook XP.
Tony, try doing a full uninstall of all Office components, then put away the O2k CD and just install Office XP by itself (which comes with Outlook 2002). Finally, go to Office Update and install all the updates. Should work great.

Let me see if I got what you are saying:
Uninstall Office
Install Office XP (reinstalling Outlook 2002 over my existing?)
Go get the SP3 update
Is that what you are suggesting? I would give that a try if I don't have to unistall Outlook and worry about my settings and data.
Thanks for your time for the response.

I meant:
Uninstall Office
Uninstall Outlook
Install Office (with Outlook)
Head over to microsoft.com/office and do the updates
Regarding your data, it's stored in a PST. If you go to Tools => Accounts => Data Files, it'll show where it is (listed as "Personal Folders"). Back that up (and, if you're not sure, back up all PSTs on your computer as found with a file search), and go through the above, and if necessary, reconfigure that section (although I'd hope you won't have to).
Your settings might have to be reprogrammed though. :(

You might also try the Service Pack 3 "Full Files Update" instead of the standard SP3 download. (Both are available from this page (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=85AF7BFD-6F69-4289-8BD1-EB966BCDFB5E&displaylang=en).) Details about Full File Patches can be found here (http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/xp/journ/fullfile.htm) in case anyone is interested.
Note, I still had to provide my Office XP Pro and Publisher CDs even with the Full File Update, so it's not guaranteed to work without the CD. Still, it's worth a try.
