When I hold my 2215 outdoors, and the sun shines from the left, after a few seconds the screen on my ipaq goes blank... if I move to a shade, and wait, it will eventually come back...
any ideas

Is the backlight turning off or is the whole screen going blank. If the just the light is dimming, I would say you have the autodim feature turned on. But not having this device, I don't know if that feature is even built in as other past ipaq models.

i read before that it's not the light but the heat from the sun that heats up the top corner of something in the ipaq. The over heating makes the ipaq do that kind of thing but i'm not sure if this is why. Did anyone else hear about this problem too?

No, I've never heard of this.
draiken, it does sound like the backlight is going off. On a transflective screen, the backlight is often actually necessary for decent viewability outside. See if tweaking those settings helps.

my best guess is that auto screen brightness is enabled. Disable it, and this should stop.

Hi, sorry for taking so long... I WISH IT WAS THE AUTO-DIM!!!
You can guess, it's not, if the backlight went off, (it has sometimes) you can still read text and see color, if you are in direct sunlight, you won't even notice if the backllight is on or off...
The thing is, that the WHOLE screen goes blank, text dissapears, and everything, just like if the unit was turned off... if I walk into a shade, and wait a few seconds, it will come back on.
Maybe you heard about this from me, I've posted this issue in several threads but never got any answers... so I decided to start my own

Any Ideas? anyone?
I had a monochrome Palm that did this. It seemed to be heat related vs. light because very bright indoor light never did it. Usually occurred in the car with light coming in through the driver side window as I used the PPC.
Can't explain why and hasn't occurred w/ my iPAQ 3845.

I've never seen anything like this, so I suggest you call HP and talk to them. You might have a defective unit. :|
