It may not matter with all of this equipment but I know once you look at a bright light source, you can't see anything until your eyes readjust to the darkness. This does show though that I don't think there are really any applications that Pocket PC hasn't been used in. :D

Whoa! That's wicked cool! For the bright light bit, maybe some red tinted screen protectors are in order? :idea:

I bet the software has a setting similar to some star viewing software I tested a while back. I bet it sets the ipaq lighting to tints of red, which makes viewing images a lot easier on the eyes.

OOoOoOOO, very neat. I could use one of these when it gets dark outside.... if I went outside when it was dark :lol:

Maybe you will see the government using this... they could be spying on you and reading their e-mail at the same time... or maybe creating a chart in Pocket Excel :D

Just 'cause it's infrared doesn't mean it's a night vision device!

While product text from the manufacturer (Raytheon) doesn't specifically explain what this product is used for, the terms "extended temperature range" and "industrial marketplace" give a good hint.

Click on your article headline (currently "Night Vision Pocket PC" :wink: ) to bring up the manufacturers web page for this product. At the top of this page you'll notice a funny colored picture of a box with wires coming out of it. This is representative of the of images produced by an IR camera of this type.

Now I'm anything but an expert, but I believe the funny colored picture is an image taken at a Sub-Station (think electric power grid) showing varied levels of thermal output.

One reason Thermal Imaging of this type is gaining in popularity in the "industrial marketplace" is because it allows the user to literally see troublesome hot-spots on industrial equipment in advance of equipment failure.

In this case, Raytheon claims to offer a competitive product at a lower price point through the use of off-the-shelf technology (an iPaq) to "capture, organize and process" and display the images.
