I am interested in buying a Dell Axim x3 (never owned a PDA or Handheld PC) and I have been doing my research and had one question about the X3. What kind of modem can I use to dial up a regular 56k account. Is it a card or external? Still learning :D Sorry if this was a silly question but I amtrying to learn. Thanks.

If being able to use a 56K wireline modem is a requirement for you, the X3 is not a good choice. It only has an SD slot, and there are no SD wireline modems. It also doesn't have Bluetooth, so you can't use any of the BT wireline modems. You'd be better off looking at something with a CF slot or Bluetooth. I have to use a BT modem with my iPAQ 4155, and it's the one thing I wish I had a CF slot for.

I agree with Talldog that if using a landline with your pda is important than a great choice would be a HP 2210/2215. It is close to the X3's price range, gives you two slots (sd/mmc & cf) and integrated bluetooth.
Just get yourself a cf 56k modem, cf wifi card, and the largest sd memory card your budget can afford and you are ready to go.
I've been using a similar setup with an older pda (Audiovox Maestro) for two+ years, and the flexability of the dual ports has really extended the pda's life.
Good luck and welcome to the fun of PocketPC.

Hey thanks for the help guys. Unfortunatly using a landline dial up is the only thing I have access to. No Bluetooth no wi-fi, just plain old dial-up. (still in the stone age). Other than the HP 2210/2215 any other recomendations? Thanks....

You can have a wireless 56k connection, you'd just need a wireless adapter for your PC and then your PPC could share the connection wirelessly. When you're home anyway :) Do a search in the Wireless forum, I think dialup wireless has been discussed there before.

nos4rot2, I own an Axim X5 and have written the site's review of the X3i. I'd agree - you should look for a device that has a CompactFlash slot. A few devices that I can think of:
-Dell Axim X5 (have to call the 800 number to order it now)
-HP 2215
-Toshiba Genio e550G (was on sale for $199 about a month ago, has a bigger screen, not very popular for some reason)
