In fact, it’s more like a desert. Consequently, the smallest puddle of shimmering water will seem like a lush oasis complete with a 5-star hotel complex and an Olympic size swimming pool populated with Baywatch lifeguards. For those of you who stayed at Hotel ‘Fade’ last year but found it a bit serious and intense, I can recommend a visit to the ‘Gilbert Goodmate’ Hotel, where a much funnier stay is promised." Thus begins the PDACorps review of 'Gilbert Goodmate'.

It's a decent length review (with plenty of pictures) and really give you an insight as to whether this games is for you. Overall it seems to be a mixed bag. "My only major issue with getting the game to work was that I had to borrow a 512mb compact flash card from Ben in order to install it. Sure, you could conceivably install most of it on a 128mb card, but then you would have hardly any room left for anything else. You need a 256mb card to do a full install of everything. The music and speech components can be optionally installed, so you can get away with just installing the basic game with its default music and a few sound effects if you are short of space. The big deal with this is that if you only see yourself as ever playing this on the toilet in work you won’t need to download the monstrous sound files – the full speech pack is a whopping 79.5mb download!" Playing PDA games in the toilet is a beautiful image 8O – please let me flush it from my mind!

So – if adventure games are your thing – be sure to see what they are saying about Gilbert Goodmate.

Yes, I had to do some major clean-house on my 256MB SD before I could install the full (79.5 MB full sound file included) and complete version. But the game is worth it. Very entertaining. The graphic is simple and clear enough make it ok to play on a PPC.

The dialog is funny. You would enjoy it more if you have the sound file. Actually, there are options on "optional download" on the developer Z-Logics's website (http://www.z-logics.com/)

Gilbert Goodmate PDA - Optional files (updated memory size for V1.04!)
Here is a list of possible installation scenarios:

32MB card:
Only the Game: 26,2 MB needed

64MB card:
Only the Game: 26,2 MB needed
The Game + HQ Music: 43,2 MB needed
The Game + Speech Gilbert: 56,7 MB needed
128MB card:
Only the Game: 26,2 MB needed
The Game + HQ Music: 43,3 MB needed
The Game + Speech Gilbert: 56,7 MB needed
The Game + Speech All: 109,7 MB needed
The Game + HQ Music + Speech Gilbert: 73,7 MB needed

256MB card:
Well - what ever you want! :)

I have great fun playing this game. As a matter of fact, it has way passed 40 hours by now, I am only at .... Anyway, got my money's worth  . BTW, the author of the review gave out some clues on the second page of the review but he didn't give the whole solution away.

I agree with the author in general. I am not an experienced gamer, PPC, PC or otherwise. I haven't got frustrated with this game. Some of the solutions are somewhat illogical, but I got a good laugh and "smug satisfaction" after I solved them. My thought was that some solutions were meant to be funny rather than "illogical". I get a kick out of Gilbert Goodmate game.

8O This is like the biggest ppc game I have seen.

That opening screenshot needs a little work. That ah....mushroom....could offend some....

The whole plot of the game involves recovering this "magic mushroom", so it's fitting that it go on the cover. If you're uncomfortable with the splash screen art, then you probably won't like the rest of the game either.
