I was hoping to make a thread dedicated to the best freeware out there. I have been scouring the freeware threads and am always on the lookout for cool things (games, productivity, enhancements...). However, there seem to be so many good things that are out there that many do not know about. I was hoping to make a thread where people share what their favorite freeware programs are.

Here are mine:

Readers:

ubook (free books from project gutenberg)
pocketdict (free dictionary)

Games:

nutcracker
euchre
crossword puzzles
othello
chess
kursk
lemmings
patience gold (various solitaire pack)
uno
nintendo
space trader
warring states

enhancements:

tdlaunch
wisbar advance
todayplus
system monitor (battery/mem display on today screen)

Other:

winampaq
dava image viewer
remover
cabinstal
speed stepper (overclocking utility)
PHM power toys

That is what I have on my device right now. If anyone has anything else they love and can't live with out please let me and anyone know. If anyone needs links to these programs let me know - I am just to lazy to put them all in right now.

If you do a search you will find lists like this at about every site for PPC...

I started one months ago at Brighthand... you will find my list at the time there...

Not that I am averse to the thread concept but PDAHay.com seems to be a pretty good site devoted entirely to this subject if you are looking for a resource. Admittedly, the organization could be much better but there are quite a few items on it. Just an FYI.

Also, lists like the above without links are really not very useful.

If you would like to develop apps for the PPC, I can't recommend ForwardPass highly enough!

It is a full development environment that has a desktop PC portion to assist in coding... and uses JavaScript (and optionally eVB) as the development language.

It is very powerful!

One of our members has written a free today screen plugin task manager that really rocks. TodayTaskKiller has icons to check memory, system processes, battery, and running apps appear on the icon line on the today screen.

To kill a running app you only have to tap and hold the icon and poof- it's gone. TodayTaskKiller uses little system resources, too. And, did I mention it's free?

You can find it here:

Zyche Software's iLock is a useful utility for storing passwords and confidential information. It is available at www.freewareppc.com. Please search for it or look in the Utilities/Security section.

I really like Calc98. Of course, it's an old program, but it's a great scientific calculator application! However, OmegaOne's new 1-Calc looks very nice. I'm waiting to give it a try.
