This post has no other purpose than extoll my dissappointment that the ipaq 4350: in fact most ipaqs do not include a side jog-wheel or volume control. Since each song on my playlist seems to play at vastly differening degrees of loudness given the volume stays constant. I just noticed yesterday that the 5550 had volume control buttons. Still, I'm waiting for hp (or anyone else) to make that PPC remote...

This probably doesn't help you, but I have found the volume "normalization" feature of CDex to be very useful when ripping MP3s/Oggs.

Have you considered mapping the up-down d-pad buttons to volume control? I found it to work rather well that way...

Thanks thats a good idea, but often when I listen to music I keep the Pocket PC in its case in my pocket where the D-pad is not accessible (to protect the screen from dust.etc) so that is not really practicle. I do have a pair of headphones with a volume control but they are cumbersome and I have nowhere to put them.

I do the same: listen to music on my iPAQ 2210 while it's in a metal case in my pocket. I had headphones with a volume control, but I recently bought the JavoEdge retractable ones, so I don't have that option anymore.
So I open up the case and use the D-pad to turn the volume up or down, but the pad is a bit oversensitive or wonky or something, 'cause half the time it'll register a right or left click and skip forward or back a track.
Why don't I use a hardware button for skipping tracks instead? Because that turns the backlight on. *sigh* Not a biggie, but kinda annoying. I miss the remote control I had with my LOOX (and that's the only thing I miss about the LOOX).
