at the moment i have a 9month old 5450, previously had a 3970 for 6 months but wanted built in wifi. i did the upgrade to wm2003(legally!), and am fairly pleased with the device - apart from far to common reboots needed...
I am now wondering whether to try to get a 5550 for the extra ram(i can prob put my 5450 in the box and return it to the store!) or to get the XDA II, for the gsm as i currently use my t610 but the connection is very unreliable. i also saw the ipaq 6x series...any one offer any advice cause i really want a new gadget!

The O2 XDAII is a new nice integrated Pocket PC phone, yet a blaring omission is built in Wi-Fi, which of course the ipaq 5550 has. If you're willing to go without Wi-Fi, the XDAII offers virtually identical specs (400MHz processor, 128MB RAM) with a VGA Camera and of course a phone. And you can use internet whener you want. All in all, it'll probably be a cheaper, more convenient alternative and you can bring a spare SD-Card for Wi-Fi outings.

This is the same thing as the xda2, the imate. Look at the price $906 usd! Thats a hell of alot more than a new ipaq 5555 and a camera phone. (if you look for a discount)

If you dont like gsm, try cdma (sprint, verizon), or iden (nextel). Cdma will give you 70-112k internet speed. You can get ppc hpone editions from them. (samsung i700 w/ camera for example)

CDMA not an option here - i'm in the good ol' UK... O2 offer the XDA II but no other provider has them, i can get it for £199 + 12months contact @ £17, so about 450 in total. The imates are on expansys for ~600.

I too have been contemplating a replacement for my 5450. The 2200 series was interesting, but without WiFi it was a deal breaker. I had my hopes up for the 6300, but without 128MB of ram, again no sale.

Although the 5550 had everything I desired, including the necessary 128MB, it was not that much different than what I already had.

I am hoping that the new crop of iPAQ's (assuming they release more than one new model) which include something to fit my needs.

My 5450 is 15 months old which is by far the longest I have every owned a PDA (11 to date) and I really need a change.

I'm in the same situation.... my decision is to wait for the 6300 or the Motorola MPx - look like few more months of waiting. I like my 5450, but the BT problem is just killing me.
