Today I got Rogers Digital Cable and I've been tinkering around with it for a couple of hours. It's great so far, only a little slower for channel surfing than regular cable, but the options are great, and really, only 15 bucks more (Canadian) per month to use, with a heap of more channels.

But what do you use, and, if you used anything else before, how would you compare?

I've gone with satellite for the last 3 years as I refuse to pay the cable companies more $$$ for less channels and poor service.

We need another poll option.....I get HD broadcasts over the air (OTA)! :ladysman:

Thanks,

I'm using digital cable right now (had it for about 3 years I guess). I've thought about Sat for a while, but haven't been compelled to change. Maybe I'm too afraid because I know that, with satellite, you can pretty much watch The Simpsons anytime you want. I'd end up losing my job, my wife, my... ;)

I used to have digital cable, but my dad got annoyed because the signal dropped every so often, so he switched to Sattelite. A DVR comes standard with it, which is very nice. I do miss some channels (the digital cable came standard with Starz, sattelite has Skinimax, both had HBO, plus there were a lot of other good channels on cable). I really don't see a whole lot of difference, I compared prices for the same channels, the only difference is that the Sattelite plan includes multiple recievers, digital cable only comes with one standard, but at least you could plug the coax into a tv and get regular cable. A little OT, but does anyone know if a PC video card will decode sattelite and/or digital cable signals?

digital cable here. If satellite allowed each tv to whatch a different channel without spending a capital in receivers Id go for it

I voted for “TV is Evil.” I haven’t watched the idiot box in nine years. I don't miss it.

Rarely my wife watches it and I leave her alone when she does. When we purchased our house, she kept the Direct TV subscription from the pervious owners so she could have HBO and see a specialty show, but now that it has gone off the air, I’ll probably silently cancel it and see how long it takes her to notice. I'd rather invest the $50.00 a month in mutual funds or stock. Money in the bank is better than merde in the brain.

We have DirectTV as cable isn't a possibility where we are currently living (waaaaayy out in the boonies). It's OK, but we lose signal anytime a really good storm approaches (which is often in the spring and summer). We'll be returning to cable once we finish building our house.

I split off the cable modem to the tv. That way I still get TLC, Discovery, etc.

That way I pay nothing for the tv I do watch....

Digital cable here. We don't have a clear view to the South, have a lot of storms over a year, etc. Haven't heard of anyone around here using satellite for Internet access, my DSL experience was bad, so a cable modem it is!

I've been a DISH subscriber for almost 7 years. The thing I like best, besides 100% digital channels, is my superstation package. I have the WB and UPN stations from LA, Boston, Denver, and New York. This means I can record shows that are normally opposite each other due to different time zones.

The DISH PVR (personal video recorder) may not have quite the features that TIVO has with DirecTV, but there's no monthly charge. The new DISH PVR901 can record dual channels, record HDTV, watch one record another, record two and watch a recorded show, bring in on-air HDTV and record. In non HDTV mode, it can record 250 hours of 480p programming. It is $1000 though. My wife won't let me get it.

I have Satellite with 800 channels (there abouts). Do we watch all of them? No. Do I pay for it? No. Do I watch it? Sometimes.

I currently use Cablevision of LI (Digital) and I'm tooling with them until around June when my promotion discount ends. I like having many channels, but not enough to kick in an extra $30 or so a month. Plus the price you get is never really locked in because of the annoying 'fee' increases.

I'll probably take my chance with Direct TV-especially if they still have that $99 TiVo/3 or 4 room installation promo!

-Always looking for a good deal!

I opted for Dish Network a few years back and have been very happy with them. I'm sure DirectTV is very comparable, but Dish has an offer on their site (http://www.dishnetwork.com) that includes a DVR for free as one of the receivers. It doesn't have all of the TIVO functions...you have to choose your programs to record, but I believe there is no monthly fee. Does DirectTV include a TIVO subscription or is that an add on?

Good luck on your choice!

I've got Charter digital cable for TV and Internet access. It costs an arm and a leg, and it's lacking in some ways (like ease of use—when I went to set up the webspace, I had to figure out how to FTP to it by trial and error. I couldn't find anything on their website telling me how. Rediculous.). We don't use the Motorola cable box that allows us to access the channels beyond 78—the thing takes forever to change channels. In any case, the only things that I watch regularly now are NOW with Bill Moyers (http://www.pbs.org/now/) and .hack//SIGN (http://www.cartoonnetwork.com/watch/tv_shows/dot_hack/index.html), on channels 12 and 71 respectively.

I've gone with DirectTV Sat. My other choice was Time Warner. For the same money I get 200+ completely digital channels(of which I may watch 30) as opposed to TW's "Digital Access Pacage". What this means is for $40 a month you get about 40 analog channels with "access" to buy optional digital programming. Quite a deal hey  . Love the Sat, in six months, only lost signal once due to weather for about 10 minutes. I have friends with cable that lose connection 2 - 3 times a month for hours.
