View Full Version : Wi-Fi?

I have an ipaq H4350 with built-in Wi-Fi but it seems it is not operating properly. Since I am not familiar with Wi-Fi technology, I cannot say for sure if it is a major problem. Anyway, I can turn Wi-Fi on and it appears to detect any network in the area. But after detecting the network (and after I select 'connect') it immediately detects for no reason in particular. Even when I don't move at all or get into the range. Could this be defective or is the signal just not strong enough? Any help appreciated.

Oh yes, one more thing. When I am surfing the net, sometimes I will for no reason in particular get the error message 'Page could not be found'. I connect via USB to a pc on using a dialup modem and the connection seems fine. Yet strangely, when I try to enter the same site minutes later there is no problem. It appears very fickle. On the top of the fickleness of the PPC system (Admittantly one of its flaws) is when I use MSN Messenger.

Prior to yesterday, I tried many times unsuccessfully to get it working - the message ' the service is not responding.etc' always came up. But after repeatedly trying yesterday it finally worked - talk about temperamental. Yet when I tried it later it failed again. Is there a problem with the server, or is the program just buggy?

Hey, Cool! I know at little about each issue! I can look smart for a few minutes...

4350 network detection
Sounds to me like you're detecting networks that have a weak signal (I have the same issue with my Dell Axim X5). Although your PPC can "hear" a 30% signal, it needs about a 50% signal to really connect.

This is normal. After connecting to a wireless network you need to wait about a minute before you can surf the web or download mail. Maybe play a hand of solitare while you're waiting - there's nothing you can do. (I have no idea why this is)

MSN Messenger
I have never really used MSN messenger because whenever I try it seems to be "unavailable". You can thank Microsoft for that.

Sometimes it takes a couple seconds to get an IP address on my laptop after connection especially with a weak signal. I don't know if that's your problem but it's plausable.

Hmm - Mine always works, and Im on a bluetooth wireless connection. It never seems to pull down the system at all, but I will have to try that with WiFi one day.

I always seem to make mistakes when I'm posting messages on the fly. I meant that after the pocket pc detects a network it immediately disconnects not 'detects.' But I'm sure you already know that!

It's a good idea to update the firmware of your router, this fixed many of my dropped connections (page not found) problems.
