I have been trying out my old Jornada 568 with Missing Sync for Mac, and have been trying to install Palm Digital Reader.

I have downloaded the files but the installer is Windows. The two files that need to be installed (as far as I can tell ) are:

Palm Reader.exe.ppc300.arm
utildll.dll.ppc300.arm

I guess that Palm Reader.exe.ppc300.arm needs to go into 'Program Files' but where does utildll.dll.ppc300.arm go?

(I don't have virtual PC to run the installer through)

Are you sure that exe file is the one you want to install? I'm thinking that maybe that exe contains CAB files inside. Try to open the program with Stuffit Expander. In some cases, stuffit will decompress what's inside the exe. Then you can install the CAB file.

Sorry Chris..

I downloaded the installation program to see if I could help you out. The setup.exe program is one of those setup programs that won't extract with Stuffit Expander.

I tried to run the installer in VirtualPC to maybe see if I could get the files after the installer completes, but to my luck, it's not a normal one.

Maybe somebody with the Palm Reader installed can search for these files on their Pocket PC?

Chris,

Fortunately, Palm Reader is an easy one: there's the Palm Reader .exe (252kb) and the utildll.dll (5kb) files, both reside in the same application folder. I can email you the two files that should just be able to be copied from CF card into a Peanut Press folder you create anywhere you want. It should work.

P.S. This site with free .CAB files (including Palm Reader in .CAB format) will be of interest for you and other Mac users without VPC:

Thanks for the help - especially the link.

I had bought a PPC a while ago - but never really used it. I have been keen to get it all working recently, especially with the release of Missing Sync for PPC.

So far, I have been really impressed with how it is all working. The BAD side is that I have now gotten a desire to buy a new iPaq 1940 - as I have really used Bluetooth a lot on my previous Palm....

I did manage to download the file from the site you mentioned, but the download is the same as from Palm's web site.

I have tried copying the two files over - and running them from Program Files, but they don't run. I assume that the installer should strip off the end part of each file name to give just a .exe and a .dll

If you would be kind enough to email them to me, I would be very grateful.

Chris, make sure you have your file explorer (Windows File Explorer or Resco File Explorer) to not hide extensions. Then rename the PalmReader.exe.ppc300.arm to just PalmReader.exe. That should fix the problem.
