View Full Version : Building playlists in WMP for mp3 residing on networked comp

I am using WM2003 and Resco File Explorer. I have my network shares enabled and I can see them in Resco File Explorer and get them to play in WMP. But when I try and build a playlist from within WMP, it will not see the network.

The kicker is that I once did build a playlist this way, and for some reason it won't do it now. So that makes it doubly frustrating.

Also is there another mp3 player that will allow easier browsing of your network shares.

Thanks,
DrB

I can't answer your question directly, but I can give you two alternatives:

a) I've had success using Windows Media Encoder 9 to stream to my PPC. I created a playlist on my desktop and then accessed the stream from Pocket WMP.

b) You may want to check out Pocketwerks Vinyl (http://www.pocketwerks.com/description.php). It's free, and allows you to create and control playlists from your PPC.

Plus, Vinyl is orange, and orange is COOL.

Vinyl is a really great program, but unfortunately it does not allow you to play the music on your ppc. It sends audio output to the sound card on your computer.

I want to be able to make WMP see my network basically. So I can listen to mp3's that are sitting on my computer.

Thanks, DrB

You're right - sorry. Unfortunately, I have no advice to offer. Anyone else?

You could try CEPlayList (http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1596). It works wonderfully for creating playlists from files that are on the PPC or a storage card, but I've never tried it with a network share.
