http://www.coolsmartphone.com/index.php

CoolSmartPhone has some shots of the new Motorola MPx220 Smartphone and something called the MPx300.

Given the stylus, this can't be a SmartPhone as the OS doesn't support a touch screen. If you look at the image, it would appear if you turned the device on its side with the memory slots facing up then opened it as a book, it seems there is a QWERTY keyboard with some app specific menu keys, like Inbox, the Windows menu and a camera.

Could this be a new Pocket PC Phone? If so, it would mean it can run in landscape mode. You know, this also could be double-hinged, meaning you could open it in the mode shown for portrait for normal use, largely ignoring the keyboard or open it with the hinge connecting at the upper and lower left corners in the shown image allowing you to thumb the keyboard.

I've been wondering how these 2 hinge devices work. Now I have another excuse to investigate further...

It looks lovely, but let's hope for bluetooth...

Yea Baby Yea!

Finally a clamshell pocket PC Phone! Leave it to "Motto" to know what's practical!

I have the MPx200 and I love it to death. If this is anywhere as small as that phone, I'll be first in line to get it!

Windows CE, and the rest proprietary, or at least custom...maybe?Whatever, this is one of the most intriguing devices I have seen to date.

Did anybody else see the 'OK' button inside the keyboard? Good sign.

The QWERTY keyboard and stylus give lots of clues about the type of device, and the Windows logo in the top left corner of the keyboard kinda settles it, I think :D

Very nice. That looks like the smallest footprint for a device to date!

We need to find better pictures of this device. Preferably pictures with the device completely open! (both ways  )

Anyone notice how the best, most innovative designs for pocketpc's are now coming from the cellphone manufacturers? They are definitely taking over, and I can see in the near future ( 2years maximum) all PPC's will be cell-phones, with no unconnected devices on the market.

Bring on that day!

If all our speculation is true this would make this device a tough choice between the new HP and the Moto. I have always disliked QWERTY devices (built in) because they are too small when they are on a vertical device. The Moto seems to solve that problem by letting it open both ways and give you a horizontal QWERTY while also letting you open it as a phone for quick calls.

The differences in the devices will probably be that the HP will have WiFi, Bluetooth and GSM whereas this one will probably lack the WiFi (I can't see how they could fit everything in along with that hinge).

The Moto is a very impressive design (if our speculation is true) and it reminds me of how feeble the attempt palm made to have a horizontal QWERTY on a phone (you could only use the phone w/ a headset).

All in All, I think I would choose the HP for the WiFi. Unless of course I am wrong and this Moto device has it all; then I can't see how anyone could say no.

One word: Sweeeeeet!

Looks like I may have a decision to make in a few months when I pick my new cell phone. The new HP or this thing. I think it may be a very difficult choice (in a very good way)...

BargainPDA appearently has the expected release date to be 04/01/04. But, they also say it will have Smartphone 2002 OS onboard. In other words, I'll believe it when I see it.

Although I haven't heard anything about FCC approval yet.

I hope the screen resolution is 320x240 on this baby! Current Smartphone screen is just too small for stylus.

as always in life ;-)

No serioiusly: I got so excited with some other PPC phone edition devices and only then learned how huge they are. There is a certain threshold I am not prepared to break in terms of soze and weight.

Thats why I really want to get my hands on this low cost 2.8" screen Yakumo PPC phone.

The maximum I would accept is something like

160 g

110x60x25mm

I am afraif the MPX300 will exceed this quite abit. But I could be wrong and this one also incorporates a smaller screen, maybe 3 or 3,2"?

if it can open both ways, then it's ar hard decision indeed between this and the ipaq.

I want my first leap into the mobile phone world a geeky one! :)

Looking at the Howard forum pics, its clear this will not be released until ppc 2004 comes out, with native and on the fly landscape mode.

It looks quite large, but then its clam shell, so it would not need a separate pda case. I personally prefer the screen as large as it is, and not some small 2.8 inch unit, as that would be too small for easy e-book reading etc. Unless something better comes along (and this is the best so far) and it doesn't have bluetooth, this is going to be my next unit.

I was just about to say that it would be great to be able to use the MPX300 as a phone when closed cause there obviously is a speaker outside, so that shouldnt be a technical problem I think.

I hate it to have grease on the the screen after holding the phone to my ear/head for longer times. And no, I am not a messie and I wash myself every day :-)

Now after seeing the slide at this forum mentioned above I doubt Moto thought of that problem. We will see....

Well, if that hand is not very big, I think this pda is pretty small, even smaller than h1900. From the pic and the sd card slot size, this PDA should be a little bit smaller than h1945, so the LCD can't be 3.5 inch, it may be 2.8 inch like the korea PPC phone. For 240*320 screen resolution, the smaller LCD size, the sharper.

Landscpe on the fly doesn't exist in any PPC version yet, so this one may be a PPC 2004 phone edition. As I know, licencee has not receive PPC 2004, so what is it?

All this thing needs is Bluetooth and it's mine. That's ALL it needs. Perfect convergence device I've been looking for.

is it impossible to do on the fly landscaping without PPC 2004?

That is one of the rumored enhancement in the 2004 OS. I hope to see all of these devices at the MDC next month.

I love moto phones and I would trade my I700 for one especially if its not out until end of year or early next with WMPE2004 so I can get the use of my I700.
