View Full Version : Now that I'm thinking about scratches...

...I just can't get them off my mind!!!
How many of you out there have scratches on your Pocket PC? On the screen, the casing, the buttons?
I have no scratches on my screen (once you get one and go protector you never go back  ), but I have this BIG HUGE seven milimeter scratch on my battery door! It is SO BIG! It drives me nuts. It makes me think my handheld is IMPERFECT!!!!!!!!!! :shocked!: I want to buy a new one! I also have a little mark on the bottom of the handheld by the sync port. Very small, but it is more shiny than the rest of the metal because the smooth finish is wiped off, so it is very noticeable. Then, on the D-pad, there are four silver dots (marking the depression spots). One of the dots has the SILVER RUBBED OFF! OMG! 8O It drives me nuts to see nice dots and then a BIG UGLY one right at the top. Also, part of the "t" in the Pocket PC logo (to the left and above the screen) got RUBBED OFF!!! ARRRGGGHHH!!! It is SO FREAKIN UGLY! It makes it look something like this: "Pocke: PC" See how HALF OF THE T IS MISSING!!!! I wish I could send it BACK to HP!!
Ok, so, again, how many of you have scratches or dings on your Pocket PC? Just tell me so I know I'm not the only one.

No scratch on my screen, I always wear protection
I always carry my PDA in a case, so I rarely get dings or scratches, but I would not care about the battery door. As long as my screen is perfect, and the unit still operate as normal.

same here. I've always had a screen protector on mine, and if i ever take it off, i don't use it until I put a fresh one on. The only trauma that my 3970 has ever suffered was a fall, but it survived. Everything will get bumps and bruises, and it's gotten some scratches from always inserting and removing the unit from the case, but just on the sides and back.

dmac, I understand completely. I dropped my imate less than a month after getting it and a 1 cm crescent piece of plastic broke off right under the power button. Its not noticable unless you look at the top of the unit, but it BUGS ME REALLY BADLY.
IMPERFECTION!!! SHE WAS SO SHINY WHEN I GOT HER...
Should we start a support group?

Wow, and I was worried about a 7mm scratch 8O That must be terrible!
I don't even pay attention to my screen (the protector is very worn with scratches) but rather I just stare around at the UGLY spots while I'm using it :(
Scratches also make me think that my PPC doesn't look professional enough. It really hurts  I actually would send it back to HP, but that would be about three million dollars (I know what their prices are like :D )
A support group? Like Pocket PC shrinks?

No scratches anywhere on my 4150. That was also the case with my Axim. I'm really careful with my devices.
If I fell out of a plane, I'd try to land on the hip that my Vaja case wasn't on.

If you're worried about scratches, do NOT get a tungsten|e because it's own flip cover gives it viscous scratches. I have sent countless e mails to Palm saying I want $299 for such a completely ludicrous fault.
I still haven't gotten a response... hmm
In the time I had my Dell, it stayed in nice condition. I wish it had a nicer screen though, I could ALWAYS see any sort of finger print or dust on it. (Never let a friend use your pda... They always forget that there is a stylus, and are fascinated by the 'touch' screen idea. :( )

Now that's a little too much to chance... I'd try to grab the case off my belt, and hold it high above my plummiting body to try to ensure the softest landing possible.

I'm going to put a nice little parachute in the seam of my case just to be careful :D

I like the scratches on my beat-up old toshi e310. It stops me fawning over "my preciooous" ppc and treating it like the beat-up but essential tool like it is (bit like my wallet really - you should see the leather now). I'm way over being materialistic (or anxious) enough to constantly admire the shiny new casing but prefer my things to be "well worn in" as long as they still function as new. Obviously, I will have major objections to disfiguring scratches.
But back on-topic:
1. My screen is scratch-free - I had a screen protector on my device before I'd even charged it up for the first time when i bought it.
2. My screen-protector is cheap, full of scratches and i hate it. But i can't be bothered ordering expensive screen protectors online when the ones for $2 a pop stop my screen scratching. Far from perfect, but functional.
3. There's a small crack at the whole where the charger plugs in- no idea how it got there.
4. Minor bits of the cheap metallic-silver paint is coming off.
But until I drop it and upgrade to an IPAQ (love those devices - I want the new 4xxx series) it'd still remain in my pocket everyday. 8)

Only thing that comes to mind is get over it already! A pristine PPC is one that's never used. The wear marks on mine just show how much I love it. I use a screen protector because the screen is both delicate and important. But as far as the rest of it goes, I didn't expect it to stay perfect forever. If you get that excited about a couple of little scratches on the plastic case, I hate to think what will happen when you drop it! You can be as careful as you want but use causes wear, that's just the way it is, I can live with that!
