Ok, when was the last time you saved the day with your PPC?
Tonight I was hanging with a friend of mine in Columbus Ohio (about 2 1/2 hours from Cleveland, my normal haunt) when the webhosting company I work with had severe DNS problems due to a server move. I logged into the servers through Terminal Services on my laptop, and wouldn't have been able to do it without my I-Mate w/ bluetooth connection to the laptop and T-Mobile GPRS.
I look like a hero - and get the problem soved from Best Buy's parking lot.
Anyone else got any great stories like this?
Jon.

Once I was at a library, and my Pocket PC started beeping.
I saved the day by turning it off

Thanks dadarkmcse, but didn't you see the catch in my tale? The Pocket PC was notifying me that a house was on fire and I needed to save three children
Anyone else with a wonderful story? Come on, you all just loved that mushy gushy love life forum :D

Ok, I have a really good one.
This past Monday I went to our local supplier that we always use to pick up 3000' of fiber optics, to do a job 4 hours away on Tuesday morning. It was promised to be there Monday, delivered via UPS, and as you can guess, it was not there.
I got the UPS Tracking number from them, and started making plans.
I contacted UPS, who found a mistake, and verified it would be delivered by 9:00am Tuesday morning.
I show back up at our suppliers at 8:50am Tuesday morning, with my boss, to pick up the fiber, so we can make the 4 hour trip to get the job done.
Around 9:00am, I see the big brown UPS truck arrive, unload, and drive away. The "great folks" at our supplier tell us the fiber did not arrive, and they can not find out why.
After about an hour of arguing with them, phone calls, name calling, and all the assorted stuff that goes with this type of situation, we were convinced the roll of fiber was there, and they either wanted to put us off, or did not have a clue about what we were there to pick up.
About this time, I remembered I had the tracking number!!
I whip out my Dell Axim, hook it up to my cell phone, through Verizon, and make a quick trip to UPS website.
Punch in the tracking number, and then show it to my boss, the guys at the counter, and all the other customers who had been watching this whole affair.
The package had been delivered at 9:08am, just as promised. by UPS!!
The whole time, my boss, who is a great electrician, but not very technical, is absolutely freaking out!!
He is amazed at how fast I could prove the point, and with such a tiny little bit of equipment.
Needless to say, our fiber was "found" in about 30 seconds, we went on our way, and I was quite the "Hero" for the next week!!
Thank you Dell and Verizon.
