Hey all
i just purchased 2 units of Ipaq h5550 about two weeks ago and just tonight i realise something. when i bring the ipaq close to my ears i can hear a buzzing/whining noise from the unit and from both of them.
is this normal or should send it back to hp?

THx

I have 2 5555's and have seen this also on 4 other 5455's, and it happens mostly whe you have the backlight set very low. On the 5555's it seems that hp tried to reduce it more by adding more shielding inside but it's still there. It's louder on some units than others so it's lik picking straws, you just don't know which is which until you get it and try it.

I can hear the buzzing and the squeal (see recent post). Got a replacement and it is the same. Seems to be by design. Useful to keep you awake in meetings.

You can call all you want but even if you managed to get a
swapped unit you basically ROLL the DICE and trade
your new fully functional unit for somebody elses REFURBED
nightmare and still wind up with a buzzing screen.

Like I mentioned in the link, this a problem is seen across
multiple platforms and is taken as 'the norm'. My unit
was very noisy when new and now it is just barely audible
(or my hearing has been conditioned by the noise, or my
hearing is diminishing beyond what I can no longer discern
as interference noise or brain wave noise ;) )

My guess is that you'd be wasting time. Unless HP issues a major
RECALL which would cost MILLION$ and force Toshiba to
do likewise as many PDA devices share the same internal parts,
I would highly doubt any such recall would be issued.

OMG, is hp really this cheap by replacing the unit with a refurb.??
i guess this buzzing noise comes with almost every pda, i heard complain from ppl with clie ux50 too. i guess we just gonna have to get used to it just like the fans in our pc.
