I need some advice from you girls (and guys using bags) out there: I need to get a bigger bag for all my stuff.
I am trying to find something like a tote with lots of compartments for all my gadgets (camera, phone, etc) and especially a separate compartment for my pocket pc.
I've been looking around but nothing seems to fit. I wouldn't want a messenger bag (no flap please), but rather something with a zipper on top, and 2 handles, but also with a shoulder strap (very important). It should be big enough for a small binder, but I don't like a briefcase (too skinny) or computer bag (don't carry my laptop around).
And of course, it should look great :)
Any ideas? What are you girls using??
Thanks!
K.

My wife has several gadgets and wanted to find a nice purse with pockets, etc. for them. She ended up just getting a regular purse and a nice PDA/wallet. She can put her camera in any pocket of the purse, her cell phone in the cell phone pocket on the outside (many purses have those now) and her wallet in the big pocket in the middle.
She got the PDA wallet that has the StrongMan attachment system (http://www.casedirect.com/product_detail.asp?UID=2004020613400241&T1=CAS+PLT+2&menu=02) from Case Logic. It's a really nice wallet. I really like the StrongMan thing. It holds the PDA very well without being PDA specific and without resorting to Velcro. It also has a special flap to protect the screen.
Anyway, that's my $0.02.

I don't like carrying a big bag. But if I was going to, and I had the $, I would probably check out http://www.levenger.com.
They have some pretty slick bags in nice leather. Upscale, but they look functional & stylish.

Your husband should be able to get you what you need. A Coach Bag, like this small carryall;
http://www.coach.com/shop/product_nobefree.asp?product_no=5881&category_id=68&show_bc=1&base_index=0&sort_by_price=&easyask_id=
I have taken my wife to the Coach store many times, and am always impressed, and somewhat thin in the wallet when we leave. Most bags have lots of pockets for cell phones and PDA's etc.
Or how about one of these;

Franklin Covey has bags like that...really nice....and really pricey. But probably worth it.

I wish I could help, but I sometimes think I've spent half my life looking for the right bag, and that's even before I got a Pocket PC.
Some characteristics of my perfect bag would be --
It should be about 12 inches long, 7 or 8 inches high, and 4 or 5 inches wide (I have too much trouble finding stuff in a deep bag).
It has to close completely -- probably with a zipper, but I don't seriously object to a small flap, or some other type of closure; it also has to open wide, so I can see everything inside.
It needs a handle or two, and definitely an adjustable shoulder strap with some provision for padding (I've currently got one of those pads you can buy for luggage straps attached to mine, and it does not look great).
It should have a few full-length zippered pockets on the outside and inside, plus smaller, open pockets on the inside for phone and PPC; some sort of system of movable/attachable pockets would be good.
The main compartment should be divided into at least two separate sides so everything doesn't end up jumbled in the middle.
It should have a separate compartment, accessible from the outside, and preferably with a waterproof lining, for a small collapsible unbrella.
It should have some sort of pocket or strap arrangement on one end to hold a water bottle.
It should be somewhat water-resistant; lining, if any, should be as sturdy as the outside of the bag, i.e. not cotton, plastic, etc.
It should be really nice leather in a choice of colors.
So far, I haven't found anything even close, at any price! I like Coach and Dooney & Bourke in general, but no specific bag is quite right. I've looked in Department Stores, high-end Crafts Fairs, and everywhere else I can think of.

I have to agree with the Franklin Covey suggestion. I bought my wife a nice leather purse there to hold all of her gadgets. They do look alot like the coach bags with about the same quality. The nice thing is they only cost a little over $100.

A grocery bag?
Anyway, I saw these purses on QVC (I don't watch purses, I just was up all night on the PC and it happened to see it on TV) and they were from this Maxx lady. When she was showing the purses they were HUGE on the inside but small and stylish on the outside. They had compartments for cell phones, and she especially showed a compartment for palm pilots.
I think the website might be here at: http://www.maxxnewyork.com/
Hope that can help you!
Edit: Hey, remember, I saw them on QVC so they were about fifty times cheaper than that.

I use the Podzilla whenever I travel or go to an event. I can fit my camera, wallet and all of my pda accessories in that bag.
I also have a Scott-E-Vest that I absolutely love. I rarely carry around a purse anymore.
However, I may have to check out the new Coach purses for the summer.

How do you like the Podzilla? I *just* placed an order for it from ebags.com Like many here I switch from bag to bag trying to find the perfect one. I'm staring at my pile of rolling backpacks, camera bags, totes, etc...and am getting depressed :(

I really like it. I chose the red so it doesn't look like a typical camera bag. It has so many pockets for all your little accessories. It also is well padded to keep your pda(s) safe. I think this bag will shake you out of your depression.
You're gonna laugh!!!!!! But I'm stone cold serious....... :?
Among my many other fetishes, I'm a semi-pro (semi-amateur??) Photographer, and I was on a quest for the perfect bag for years that would take what I had to give it. I tried all the best camera bags out there from rollers to backpack to whatever. Then I heard this idea from a friend and I've never looked back.
I also have several for different uses:
One for my day to day business use that holds my cell, PDA, Laptop, pen(s), magazines, etc... and can double as a short trip bag.
A smaller one that holds my PDA, Cell phone, my small 35mm and a few odds and ends....
A larger one that holds the above plus my medium format camera, 2 lenses, 2 film backs, meter and film.
And one that's somewhere in between that holds my 4x5 view Camera, Film holders, 3 lenses, Cell/pda/notebook and associated "stuff".
What's the magic bag?
DIAPER BAGS :jawdrop: :way to go:
This one is a winner (http://www.babystyle.com/common/dProductDetail.asp?PMId=6213&tf=2&siteid=LINKagXlDjSD2Ug-mvTSmtKoTo9t2Llxx8Jn4w) as is This one. (http://www.babyuniverse.com/pro.asp?id=24123&rc=qIZcQCRnkX9fAkyRhwIt)
Yep.... all sorts of styles available from messenger/tote/backpack, lots of compartments to organize everything to the n-th degree. their two best attributes?? CHEAP and NO ONE WANTS TO STEAL THEM.
Hope this helps.

Speaking of diaper bags... I went to the Coach site because I was curious as to just how expensive the bags were. I saw that they had diaper bags. 8O
I can think of much better things to spend multiple hundreds of dollars on besides something to carry diapers...
Ah well. To each their own.
Heh.... I spent less than $20 on all of mine... and I'll tell ya.... if you're on your knees in a muddy area taking a photograph, the built in changing pads are a godsend.

I hate bags. I stopped carrying a purse somewhere around my early grad school days. For years, I packed everything in my pockets, and ignored the hated clothing designers who decided that I wanted clean lines, rather than functionality. When I got my first WinCE device (in Oct 2002), I decided I needed something to carry it and the headphones, etc, as I didn't want it to die the deaths my IBM WorkPads had. I went to the Kroger camera section and picked up a little camera bag (which ended up being free, as the register rang it up wrong). I've used it ever since. One of these days, I'm going to get a clothing item that will carry this stuff for me, and the bag will go away again. Since I'm one who dresses for comfort, not fashion or style, this will work for me, but I can imagine most other females will feel that something like the ScottEVest products won't go with everything.

I've had a bag thing for awhile - trying to find the perfect one. I bought a Targus Matrix Backpack last september and I think I've finally found the one I want. Mines a bit big (quite large) but stylish. They also make thinner versions. Here's a pic & Link:

D@mn all you to h311 for posting this, especially you Goldkey for the discount link. ;)
I use a Pod bag from RoadWired but some of the slings/messenger bags on eBags are quite slick.
FWIW there's a "for girls" section on eBags in the slings/messenger bags section.
I know you're not too high on the messenger bags but check out some of the nice ones at timbuk2 (http://www.timbuk2.com).

Sigh. I just could not resist the lure of the eBags sling bag a second time. I almost ordered one back when the original thread came out but managed to restrain myself. This time the bag is on sale for $29.99 and with the 25% discount it's only $22.49. I ordered one. Of course the slick looking eBags Lightning Messanger bag on sale for the same price, so I ordered one of those as well. I'm weak, very very weak.
How am I going to explain this purchase to my wife? She already thinks I have a mental problem when it comes to bags. She's right of course, but how do I explain it?

The last one if my favorite for when it comes to possibilities and organization, but I can't stand that red rim around it.
The middle one looks great, but there is no inside picture, and I don't really know how usable it is.
The first one is on sale, and it looks ok, but those outside pockets aren't exactly what I was looking for...
Now what?? :(

Well, as long as we´re cussing or blessing folks, I want to smack you all for reminding me how much I want a ScottEVest, and I didn´t even know until this thread started that they can have removable sleeves (silly me thinking it was weird that a company called ScottEVest sold jackets, not vests!)...so now my craving´s even worse. Too bad the ones on sale would probably dwarf my 5ft 3in frame
Ok, I´m actually sorta torn between the good smack and the bad smack, but since they cost so much, I´m leaning more toward the bad smack.

Google has found some references/pictures, and although I'm at work and my monitor is so bad that the pictures are all too dark to see properly, some of them look great. I'll have to look some more when I get home. I did find one entertaining article about someone with luggage lust --

Yes, the prices are a bit up for a bag. In Euros it's from 100 to 250. In US$ this could be 150-300. But they have decent bags in the lower price range. And mind you that these are high quality designer bags.
I already gave two of them to my wife and she was most pleased with them.

Well....I got sucked into the case chase and tried ordering a pod and a sling thingie and a couple of other things (backpack for skiing, etc) with no luck.
It seems the 25% discount is messing up the Border Free canuck check out.
It won't process my Visa on the website or over the phone.
I have tried for a couple of days to process the stupid order.
Argh
I am still wondering if I should move from the pod to podzilla for my 2200, Canon S50 and all the other stuff (micro keyboard, CF wifi, CF cards, chargers, etc).
Any guidance from Pod owners?

Well, I just got my Podzilla today and I'm....a bit underwhelmed. It seemed a tad smaller than I thought, but was glad it wasn't the size of a boat. I'm going to keep it as with a good amount of ingenuity I was able to carry *about* all I wanted to with me  One things for sure, you really realise what you need to take with you as opposed to what you normally do day to day. Sure wished it had a keyring or extra zippered coin pouch on the inside though.

The customer service reps were calling ME trying to resolve the snag with the Border Free checkout as much as I called them....but unfortunately with no success.
We both suspect Border Free but they keep dodging the bullet.
Visa had given approval numbers on the purchases.
Best part....after being patient for the last week and a half - the rep is going to buy the stuff himself......mail it himself....and give me his employee discount.....HOLY COW!
I will just Paypal him the money when he figures out the shipping.

My eBags order that I place last Feb 8 arrived last night, Feb 16, a six business day delivery. Not bad for a shipment to Canada, and better than the 5 - 18 day window that they predicted. The shipping charge seemed a bit high at CDN$25.00 for three bags but when you realize that Borderfree is a division of Canada Post then it starts to make sense.
No complaints about the bags. I bought the eBags Cross Body Sling Bag that Goldkey recommended and the eBags Lightning Messenger. At the price I was ready for a bit of a disapointment but the bags are great, high quality and the sling bag is huge! I used the Messenger today for work and really liked it. I'll try out the Sling on the weeked and see how that works for me. Thanks for the tip, Goldkey.

Sometimes you can find 'gear' bags in the unlikiest of places. This past weekend, I went to Macys and they usually will have handbags, backpacks marked down in a bin. Well sure enough, I picked up a backpack that had enough compartments to be usefull. A pretty shade of olive, too
I'm not sure how this helps the men here, though! 8O
