I just got a Toshiba E310 and was a former Palm user. Am I missing something or is there no way to 'view' your PPC contents and edit them like with the Palm O/S? For instance putting in appointments and phone numbers using your Desktop PC and then syncing it to the PPC. I am not the biggest geek in the world, but I DID read the manual and saw nothing, do I have to input all my contacts and appointments into the PPC using only a stylus??!?

I believe that is done using Outlook, as that's the program the PPC syncs to for that sort of information.

Just to add to adwignall's point: you can definitely sync. With the E310, you should have gotten a CD with Outlook and ActiveSync; the latter is like HotSync, the former does what Palm Desktop does (and much more). If you have Outlook already, you don't need to install the former, but definitely want the latter in either case.

One tip, though: don't use the ActiveSync on the CD. Download the latest version (3.7.1) from pocketpc.com (www.pocketpc.com); they've fixed a number of issues with the earlier versions...

Thanks, I guess I have been the ever-reluctant Outlook user, and never even opened it. Riddle me this, if I get the same Toshiba, and my wife and I use the same computer, will it recognize us as individuals with individual needs (and appointments)?

Yes, as long as you make separate Outlook "profiles". The easiest way to do this is to have two users on the computer. If you don't like that arrangement, there's a more sophisticated way to have Outlook ask you "which profile" to use on startup.

Mind you, you don't need to get her the same actual unit. Any Pocket PC will coexist fine with your e310.

check outlook. All of your contacts should be there. If not, you can check activesync and makesure that you are syncing you pim. Dont get her a e310. You can get an e350 with wm2003 or e335 for $170 or less if you shop around online. (shopper.com, pricegrabber.com, shopping.yahoo.com) Dell is selling the axim x3 for $199. Im sure you can get an ipaq 1910 for real cheap, too.

Be careful with that advice. Believe it or not, AS on MS's site doesn't always have the right USB driver for your PPC. I've learned the hard way, it is sometimes better to install AS from your CD and then upgrade. :|

Point taken, although I noticed 3.7.1 has quite a bit of new INFs that recognized both my i700 and e805 without a hitch. At least, that's what I think -- it's possible the INFs were already floating on my PC. ;) 3.7.1 should definitely handle the e310, if nothing else.

Also, if you've already installed 3.7.1 and the driver isn't detected, you can find just the INF file on the CD and point the New Hardware wizard to it. I did that when I first got the i700 and didn't have to deal with the hassle of uninstalling/reinstalling AS.

Also you can browse your PPC's contents using the Explore option in activesync. You can transfer/move files etc.
