If you've ever created icons before, you'll understand that icons are literally assembeled pixel by pixel. It's extremely detailed work, and often the mouse seems like a cumbersome tool. I've only ever done icons "professionally" once (for a client), and boy would I have loved to use my Pocket PC instead! There's even an <a href="http://www.aklabs.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=5&sid=3eb2d657740f70414d8a8d075e03ec95">icon discussion forum</a>. I love seeing solutions like this for the Pocket PC - natural extensions of what the platform is best at. Keep up the great work developers!

Does it seem to anyone else the distribution of colors to select from is rather random? Any reason why they do this? I'd think it would start with white in the upper left, then slowly progress in shades to black in the lower right or something like that (jumping colors when necessary)..

It may be off-topic, but...

Does anyone know a program to take the icon from my PPC apps installed on my SD Card and save them to .ICO or all the icon I need in a DLL maybe. So when I browse my menu, it didn't have to open all files just to get the icons!
I would prefer a program that do that directly on my pocketPC.

I've never try to open the .EXE with microangelo on my PC, I will try that tonight... then I will just have to redo the shorcut....

They appear to be grouped in vertical bands by hue. It does look a little random at first, but you can see a progession from blue to red as you move from left to right. The "random" colors along the left side appear to be made up of mostly the basic 16-color Windows system palette.

If you go to their web site and select screenshots is shows the colors displayed in different orders so it must be configurable.

Here is a thread on Brighthand http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=511687#post511687 that has a lot of info on icons on the PPC and an app for viewing icon resource files on the PPC.

It would be nice if there was an app that could view icon resource files and extract and edit on the PPC like Michroangelo and ArtIcons on the PC.

As it is, I either point to the original icon resource (.exe, .dll, etc) on the PPC or I extract\edit on the PC and create my own resource file (.dll).

I use microangelo a lot to make sprites for my games, I thought pocket Icon could be a good replacement/partner but its not, at least for me, very nice inniciative but still need to get better...

some sugestions:
option for a bigger drawing area ( 240x240, the shrink the menus/buttons on the bottom )
fix the stylus holding bug, where it does not draw immediately and shows the hold animated icon when you just touch for a single pixel or touch and hold.
zoom option ( 32x32 icons sometimes are better to edit viewing only 16x16 on the screen )

I suggest they get the microangelo demo and borrow everything they can, including the gradient system

I´ll try pixello now, maybe it fits better my needs

Am I missing something, neither of these will allow you to edit .dll files? With Pocket Icon I tap Tools | Open... | and nothing happens for me. :cry:

I was looking into these when I was doodling gsm logos for this one company.

Unfortunately not one of them supported custom gfx modes of, say, 72x14, so I went for actual drawing programs instead.
