HP is finally sending out replacement grips to anyone whose grips are damaged, destroyed, or falling off due to the case. I ordered my replacement kit today and it is already in the mail! The technician stated that the kit includes more than just grips, but he didn't know exactly what was in it. I've heard that it includes a new battery compartment cover and/or carrying case. I'm just happy to get new grips!

Here are the instructions, directly from the HP support site:

Please note that, if the side grips (Spare Part Number 349036-001) of your iPAQ Pocket PC h2200 unit are damaged due to a defective slip case, the side grips and slip case can be replaced by you. The replacement side grips and slip case can be ordered by you, please contact our Technical Support at 1-800-652-6672, options 3, 1 (enter 10 digit phone number), 2. If you are a first time caller, your phone number will not be registered in the database. You will need to enter your phone number twice and then wait for the routing center to put you through to a Technical Support Specialist.

To remove the defective side grip(s), complete the following steps:

1. Hold the iPAQ pocket PC on its side with the side grip facing up and the Secure Digital (SD)/Compact Flash (CF) card slots pointing away from you.

Note: Ensure that the side grip is free from any oils or slippery substances that may prevent proper grasp during this removal procedure.

2. With your right thumbnail, press firmly and hold the lower (pointed) end of the side grip. (This will help release the locking tab underneath the side grip.)

Caution: Ensure that no pressure is exerted on the display panel. Exerting pressure on the display may result in damage to the display.

3. Place your left thumb on the middle of the side grip (helps to disengage the four contact tabs underneath the side grip more effectively) and slide the side grip up about 1/8th inch.
4. Lift off the side grip.

I got my 2210 fixed a few weeks ago. Here's what I did.

1. Packed it up in the original box.

2. Drove to Comp USA

3. Showed it to the service guy along with my TAP warranty.

4. Paid the hundred dollar difference in price and took home my new 4355.

I Highly recommend buying the extended warranty.

I received my replacement grips today. The kit included instructions, two new grips, and a new battery compartment cover. Install was a "snap". I noticed that the grips are a little thinner, because now my Ipaq doesn't fit so snugly in my metal Innopocket case. It's loose enough that the Ipaq could slip out when the door is open, but it's unlikely I would ever hold it in such a manner as to allow this to happen.

I am VERY happy with the HP support!

I finally had to replace my grips. Called support on tues got grips and new battery cover on wed. So are these new and improved grips? they do feel thinner and fit great but I hope that I don't have the same problem in 6 months. You mentioned a new sleeve but there was nothing in my package but the grips and the new battery cover.

Pictures!! Let's see some pictures! Old vs. New. Side by side.

I got new grips, but I think they were the old style. They're holding up, but I've been treating them a little more nicely.

I read somewhere else that the replacement kit included a new carrying case, but that's not true. The kit includes two replacement grips and a battery compartment cover.

The grips look the exact same as the originals, so a picture would do no good. But they are apparently a little bit thinner because my Ipaq doesn't fit in the case the same. I assume HP made them thinner so that they wouldn't rub against a case and scratch or fall off. It fits into my metal case much easier, so now I don't worry about taking it in and out.

Nope the replacement kit only contains the two grips the battery door and a little foam piece with adhesive on the back. I think this to keep the battery tight to the contacts so that you do not lose power.

I did receive an extra case the first time I called in. I was told this should correct the problem, Hp seems to think it is because of the tight fitting case. The problem is with the poor design, the piece that attaches the grip to the housing is just to fragile. By the way the case that was sent to me was tighter than the original... I ended up giving it to my sister for her Hp1945... a perfect fit actually...

are they really different? from what i've been reading (here and on other forums), the 2210/5 replacement grips are exactly the same as the original.

Did you not read the last two posts? We both said they look the exact same as the originals, but they are slightly thinner so as to allow a smoother fit in a case. Therefore, they are the same. I don't see anyone on here stating that they are different.

then why post yet another thread about the same thing? there are enough threads about this on here and brighthand.
