View Full Version : New Linksys Bluetooth USB Adapter
Just bought Linksys new class1 bluetooth adapter for home use. I have a belkin class2 adapter at work. The range on the Linksys is amazing, I go over most of my house, two levels, the adapter is on the first level. Setup was a breeze. This is my first post from my PDA using the adapter. 8)

How do you have your's connected? I have one of these and can only connect using active sync over bluetooth. I want to connect directly through my computer by-passing active sync. When I try to connect directly it uses the null modem and sits there waiting for the computer to dial up a connecton. I have a cable hookup so there is no modem to dial up with.

What OS are you using on the desktop?

Then that's not the problem I was thinking of. ;)
I use active sync and do not have any problems. I have never tried to use the direct dial up. I will give it a try and see if I can do it. Also, I am using Windows XP Home Edition.

I found an older thread on this and they stated that using the direct connect was almost twice as fast as using active sync, this is why I want to get it to work. My ICS must be misconfigured somewhere. I'll have to redo it and try over again. It could also be my firewall causing it to not link up. Let me know if you have any luck.

Well, after much fighting I got it to work. I think the main problem turned out to be Zone Alarm. I had to go in and give the apps permission to access the internet through another connection and also lower my internet security zone. Now my active sync isn't working properly. It connects but when it goes to authenticate it just sits there. I'll have to play with it a litte more. The connection is a good bit faster this way instead of going through active connection. I compared it to another handheld I have using an 802.11b CF card and it usually only took 2 or 3 more seconds to load a page on bluetooth, well worth it for the power savings to me.
