Airscanner Mobile Encrypter has user-selectable, popular encryption and decryption algorithms such as 40-bit RC2, 40-bit RC4 and 56-bit DES and also offers Microsoft's Enhanced CryptoAPI, which supports strong, 128-bit RC4 encryption/decryption algorithms. The encryption/decryption is performed at the individual file and folder levels. Each file can be encrypted/decrypted by its own key."<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/web/2003/parekh-20040130-Airscanner.JPG" /><br /><br />Best of all, it's free for personal use. :)

I wonder how it compares to Pocket Lock from Applian (http://applian.com/pocketpc/pocketlock/index.php), which I already own.

I think it would be nice if someone who owned Pocket Lock could also try out Airscanner and see how the two compare.
That would help all of us who are considering it to see if it would be better to buy Pocket Lock, or if it is just as good to get the FREE Airscanner.

Finally, PPC can enjoy free folder/file level encryption :D
Palm users can no longer make fun of our "entry-level 4 digit security system"!

I just use the encryption provided by Resco Explorer. If I'm in a situation where something may happen to the ppc, I also set a password/fingerprint on the unit.

The only concern I would have with this program is that it overwrites the standard Pocket PC password program. And is limited to 4 numeric entry and no Alpha.

If you want to uninstall it the standard passward screen is not reinstated, and to get that back you have to do a hard-reset, or the install password program from the microsoft site and then uninstall that.............Bit of a work round but it works.

I could find no imformation on this at all on the AirScanner site.

I don't know how AirScanner works, but Applian's Pocket Lock has nothing to do with the Pocket PC password screen. It's for encrypting files and folders, not the device.
