I don't know much -- anything -- about firewalls, but I've got one at home in the form of Norton Internet Security 2003.

I use ActiveSync 3.6 because, well, it works. At least for me, it does. Not great, but with enough consistency it's not too bothersome.

When I've tried upgrading to 3.7 or, more recently, 3.7.1, I can't connect to the Internet for AvantGo webpage updates.

Has anyone had this problem? I believe there something I need to do in the firewall, but Symantec's Knowledgebase hasn't been helpful, and I can't believe I'm the only one trying to use ActiveSync 3.7+ with NIS.

Norton's should let you know when a program is trying to go to the net if you've set it up to notify you. When it does, you can tell it to "permit" (one time permission), you can tell it no or you can pick another option to allow it to access whenever that particular program decides to go. I'm using 3.71 with Norton Internet Security and after I told it to allow AS to go, it's been fine. If you're not getting the notifications check your NIS settings and see if you've disabled AS from connecting to the net (I did this before!).

May be a dumb question, but did you reset your AvantGo password. I think the last time I installed a new version of Active Sync, I needed to re-enter my AvantGo login and password. Just a thought.

Jimski's right. Go to avantgo.com and reset things.
