Amazon has the new MuVo2 MP3 Player for $199 with free shipping:

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0001BXCFS/ref%3Dnosim/101081219792-20/002-7306701-0224860

Apparently, you can take out the Microdrive, which sells by itself for over $400, and use it in either a PocketPC or digital camera that supports it. See this thread over at DPReview.com for more info:

This is the same Microdrive that the new iPod Mini's use as well, although only the MuVo has been confirmed to work with PPCs or digicams.

Looking at the Amazon link, "this item has not yet been released", there is no release date given, and no picture of it.

So it seems to be vaporware now.

I just looked now on the Creativelabs.com web site, and (if this is the same model you were referring to), they do have it in stock there, also for sale for $199:

http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=3&subcategory=20&product=8980&nav=faqs

Is that the same one?

Looking at the specifications though, I don't see anything about the HD being removable. (Which would be necessary to use the HD in a different device.) How do you know that it is?

(Sorry for the repeat replies.)

I just looked at the DPReview URL you gave. THe writer said he did "emergency surgery" to extract the microdrive from the music player. It sounds like he had to split it apart to get to the HD. So, one couldn't switch the HD back and forth between the Muvo and PPC.

I've heard alot about these microdrives. This might be a stupid question but can they be used in a PPC? What are the difference between a microdrive vs. secure digital cards?

pls advise.

They can be used in Pocket PCs that have a Type II CompactFlash slot. They're larger than SD cards, so they won't fit into an SD slot. They also eat up more power if you use them heavily.

By the way, I'd like to combine this with the frontpage thread:

Please post further comments there. Thanks!
