View Full Version : Is PI too slow to start?

I love PI. Let me just say that before I complain.
My one and only complaint is that it is slow to start, especially when using the Nav buttons. Does anyone agree?
I know that PI is a huge program and that is a totally legit reason. It's just that I'm so impatient, that the extra couple seconds are frustrating to me.
BTW, yes... I did install it in main memory and I do have the most recent version.

I just leave it running all the time.

Same here. It's the first thing I launch...

3.5 - 4 seconds launch from power off using the Calendar button on my 4150. That's including bmp's displayed for the various event I have for the month (I use 30 day calendar view). Not too bad and that's the fastest I have ever experienced throughout my PPC ownership.

With power OFF, about 5 seconds using the NAV button
With power ON, about 3 seconds using the NAV button vs. about 1 second using the Journal Bar link
I think I'll just leave it on.

Same here, too. I setup WA to minimize PI rather than close it. It eats a bit of memory, but with 30+MB of memory available, it is not a problem.

I only have about 10MB of program memory left on my device (or less) and even I leave PI running. 3-4 seconds to load up initially isn't too bad and if you leave it on then it's instantaneous until the next soft-reset. There's absolutely no reason not to leave PI running in the background unless you really have NO memory.
Even calligrapher takes a couple of seconds to start with...

It's recommended by PI, to always leave it running. This is what I do!

I leave it running, but I would like a way to have it load up after a soft reset and then minimize. Yeah I know I could just tap the button but why not have it just do it by itself.

How do you do that to specific apps vs all apps?

In WA setting, you can designate programs which WA will ignore, close, or minimize all the time.

i saw that. The problem I was having was it didn't list any programs when i hit the drop down. I left PI open and then tried it and it was listed then. thanks for the tip, now I can close FlexWallet while leaving PI open.
Thanks again. :rock on dude!:

I do this with Pocket Plus, which lets you set up a list of applications that will minimize instead of close when you click the X button..

True, just be careful if you use both PocketPlus and Wisbar Advance. If the setting on PocketPlus is set to minimize vs close, you'll have some problems with your start menu. I would tap start and the menu would show up and disappear right away. Even with the setting disabled in WA. had to disable it in PocketPlus and all was good.

I liked Wisbar, but it was a big performance sucker, so I dropped it. Pocket Plus does everything I need. I don't get the neato-skeato skins, but oh well :-)
