Hey all, LTRFTW (for you strongbad fans)
just got a new ihack 4150! err ipaq!

anyway. I've been messing around with the remote synching with ActiveSync 3.7.1 (which i just installed).

Here's my deal, i can get it to connect over wi-fi with no hitch..
only problem is.. it sticks on 'Connecting....'

ActiveSync on my PC lights up and turns green, but freezes!

About 15 seconds later it quits with a message saying:

"Critical Communications Services have failed to start. Try resetting the mobile device and connect again"

I have tried restarting several times! I even restarted my PC, and re-installed activesync and restarted the pc.. still no dice!

I've tried connected remotely via a VPN connection, and via just the 'work' network.. Both result in the same effect, An apparent 'connection' leads into a frozen activesync and an error.

Anyhelp with this would be appreciated as i find it very useful!

Can you sync okay using the USB connection?

Can you browse your Desktop PC from the PPC over the Wifi network?

Do you have a stong Wifi signal?

Just a few things to check....

syncing works like a charm with the USB connection.
I can browse network shares on my PC over wifi on the PPC
the wifi signal is strong!

I just noticed that when it tries to connect
ActiveSync says 'Guest' instead of 'PortaPud' the name of my PDA!

hmmmm.... i think i saw some faq's about this somewhere...

There is an issue with this and I'm sure it's related to the 3.7.1 release of ActiveSync. This is the version I am running without issue but other's have not been so lucky. I would uninstall ActiveSync and reinstall from the CD-ROM which came with your h4150 which will have release 3.7.
See if this fixes the issue.

upon reinstall of AS, and restart. i managed to connect over wi-fi..
Still it connects as 'guest' i've even checked my device ID and made sure it matched the activesync device ID that it is looking for.

this time however, the sync completed and no errors/crashes occured.. BUT it still registered as a guest account. I've seen so many pages about the 'guest' issues i just can't seem to get any of the fixes to work...

problem solved!
i had pockethosts installed before as per someones idea..
uninstalling didn't get rid of the registry entries..

i removed the tcpip/hosts entries and it synced up like a champ!

thanks for the concerns, you now have another happy pda user on your hands... man i'm glad i got on board!
