The speaker was Todd Kort from Gartner Dataquest, and he primarily talked about PDAs and smartphones. He presented several slides that showed different devices on different scales, i.e., consumer vs. enterprise. One device that piqued my interest was when he showed a scatter plot of current and soon to be released devices, and the iPAQ 63xx was on there. He stated matter-of-factly that the iPAQ 63xx would have Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPRS integrated in one device. While he didn't give a release date it sounds like this device is definitely around the corner, and may no longer be just a rumor."

Will the 6300 release lower the price on the 4100?

I suppose people should scour the FCC postings.

Will the 6300 release lower the price on the 4100?

Highly doubtful. I'm guessing the 6300 series will be their elite line, in the $600-$700 range. After all, it's a phone too...

I bet that hp will refresh their whole line for the launch of wm2004. (as they did with the wm2003 launch) A new 19xx, a new 2xxx or 4xxx, and a new 5xxx unit along with the 6300. They will have to produce a new 19xx to for the budget minded customers. The new 5xxx will be needed for businesses with all of the old accessories, and a new 2xxx or 4xxx for the mid priced market. The 5xxx will need vga and 500-600mhz or more, expansion packs, along with a hard drive and wifi & bt, @ $600. The new mid priced model will need a keyboard on one model, vga, and over 400mhz plus wifi & BT, @$350-$450. The new budget unit will need either wifi or BT, qvga, and a 400mhz processor @$250-$329. The 63xx will be in its own line above the 5xxx, but not a replacement, @$650+ before carrier rebates. (as competition for smartphones, treo600, and ppc phone edt.) This will ensure hp's further success.

Thats what i think. (there is no confirmed truth to my statements)

I'm betting more along the $800-$1100 range, sans contract.

I gotta say this device would get me to switch off my current wireless provider, at least for data, if it does well in other evaluations. Verrrry interesting guys... :)

I am wondering what the final product will look like. Hopefully it is on the smaller side and a 3.8 screen.
GSM/GPRS, BT, WiFi- is a good idea.
I can only imagine how expensive it will be. The Tungsten W is not priced to bad depending on where you go and is with AT&T. It would be nice to see the 6xxx series in a very competitive price range with the Tungsten W.
I would personally like to see more than just those aditions in this model, but some major improvements.

If they can get VGA on this and possibly the 5xxx, that would be the best!

Awesome. I won't be first in line to get this, but most likely will get it soon after it comes out.

Well, it's official folks.............I'M NOT GETTING A 5550  Hopefully I can use it on the Sprint network, since I do work for Sprint.

I have verizon now...so unfortunately I doubt verizon will offer service with this device, but I can always hope.

Please HP, don't put a measly 64MB RAM in this powerhouse. I don't think you are building this for the price conscious consumer. 128MB or "No Sale". I am sure you can fit it in there.

Yep, me too. $600 (if $ = USD) sounds too cheap for such an iPAQ with GSM, Bluetooth and WiFi. I'm prepering for the worst and expect that it will cost around 1000 $/€. (Well, at least with the 22% VAT we've got here...)

Maybe someone with HP contacts could sniff out the price here?

I'm waiting for March with excitement. Hopefully HP's design department has made the device good-looking... 8)

I am wondering what the final product will look like.
I'm note sure how practical it would be, but something similar to the 41xx would be ideal for my tastes - that design is aesthetically pretty near perfect (assuming of course something were to be done about the yellow-ish screen).

If this device *does* see daylight and live up to its apparent promise, I hope it's based on the upcoming Magneto (or whatever they're calling it this year) version of the OS and the Due-Sometime-This-Year? .NET Compact Framework 2.0...then I would be unable to resist.

At one point I would have jumped for joy at the prospect of a tri-wireless Pocket PC - but not now. My XDA has been sold on with the concept of a one box solution having proven to be less desirable than it originally seemed.

I'm not saying I won't have any interest in the new iPAQ BUT it will need to have VGA, 128MB RAM and dual slots as a minimum - all practical and useful features without which I can't see the point of upgrading. Magneto would be nice but I would settle with a device that is able to be upgraded.

The big downside to this device is GPRS. CDMA is the way to go right now for wireless. Verizon just upped to 300-500 K for the next round of devices. That's the kind of speed we're looking for.

I had T-Mobile for a while and while unlimited data is cool at $20-$30 it's still quite slow.

Also, HP's stuff is always way overpriced.

Then, better have VERY GOOD battery life. If you will ALSO need to buy a second battery, this thing is going to be around $800.

It will NEED to have a battery that lasts at least 5 hours of continous use and no less than 10-12 in standby or whichever mode it will set itself as a phone.

Really Jason, I do not know who could be part of that market. I'm sure I won't.

Pocket PC Phones can do this pretty easily, especially the HTC GSM units -- one of my officemates went perhaps 3-4 days without recharging once.

Well, I'll guess then when it comes to Canada in late 2007, it will cost about $1,600 with a three year contract... :(

I was looking around and came across the photos, and it stated at bargin PDA that it was set to be released the first day of April. :ppclove:

I love it and hopes it comes with a camera, as it is rumered that they are pulling the camera ones due to problems. Didn't mentin the price but rumered to be around 6 to 7 hundred.
