Hello everyone...i just joined this forum today... i need to purchase a pocket pc this week...i have done extensive research and i am still unsure which model to buy...i either want to purchase a nice budget model...or on the other hand im the type to shoot for the moon and sometimes purchase the cadillac model...wifi and bluetooth would be nice to have but are not essential requirements...do you have any suggestions...thanks in anticipation

The best PPC to buy is a personal choice depending on what you want to do with your PPC and your budget. There is no perfect PPC as each unit has some excellent features and some draw backs. The good thing is that they have the SD and CF slots so that you can add things like WiFi or Blue tooth should the unit you select not come with it or you later find a need for it.

I agree wholeheartedly with the above polster, this is a very personal issue. I personally have the Hp2210... mainly because it had dual slots... but if you are looking for a budget model and the cadillac models currently available.. Then arguably they would be the Hp1930 and the Toshiba E805...
NOW WATCH THE ARGUMENTS START... lol....

The WiFi and Bluetooth factors will be your most important decision point. If neither of these interest you in any way, then a budget model is the way to go (although many budget models are now offering one of the above anyway).
I wouldn't count on using expansion slots for wireless connectivity. You will forever curse yourself for not having just paid for the integration in the first place rather than paying for the add-ons later, dealing with incompatible drivers and having to carry these fragile little cards all over the place.
After the wireless consideration, the rest is just process of elimination; built-in thumb board, 128MB RAM, 3.8"-4" screen, add-on external keyboards available, replaceable battery. If you can live without all of these features then any PPC will do. Otherwise, you will need to filter out the "must have" from the "like to have".

Get the e805. You will never regret it. I've never been so satisfied with a PPC. Nothing else comes close.

I love my h2215. I could have bought one of the newer HPs, but I decided on my h2215 because of the dual slots. Expandability is the solution to continuous upgrades. I'm hoping I can hang onto this machine and not have to upgrade once a year like I have been. Quite an expensive hobby, isn't it?

Every one of your posts has to do with how great the e805 is. Give it a break, it sounds like you work for toshiba.

The thing is though, the e800 series is so big compared the the little and tiny HP models.
I have the 2215 and it is great for expandability etc. I would suggest you go with something that you will love for a long time, maybe look at the 1900 series, I have two friends that both just got the 1940. Speed, memory, expandability, look at the 2210/2215 (no difference)
And plus Toshiba has a bad bad reputation for the customer service.
Oh, and what about the new Dell X3? That has some super nice features and is comparable with the 2215 in sizes. Power of wifi in the X3i model aswell, but you need wifi. I bought a WiFi card for my home network.
Best regards,
get a good one and stay away from PalmOne! :D

It's a little taller than the "big" iPAQs, and about the same width and thickness. I'd say it's similar to the "larger" Pocket PCs, i.e., Axim/"sleeveable" iPAQ.
And plus Toshiba has a bad bad reputation for the customer service.
Good point.
Badandy, tsb_hcy is addicted to the screen, and as I'm playing with one, it's easy to see why. All that said, I agree it really depends on what one is doing. The e805 is a high-end device, in features, cost, and size. I'd write a review, but I have to build up my energy first for another 9,000 word essay 8O
Anyway, the iPAQs are a fabulous line -- you really can't go wrong with most of the new ones. The Dells provide great price points. All in all, it's a pretty good time to choose a Pocket PC. 8)

I am in the same camp as Robb Bates. I almost went for the h4350, but decided to stick with my original choice of h2215. I wanted the dual slots. I don't have wifi at the moment, but when I do decided to spend $70.00/month for the privalage plus an additional $$ a month for data downloads then I will buy a CF wifi card and then start to think about models with built in wifi. However, I will still keep my h2215 for the dual slots and because I just love it. It allows you to have a chioce (CF slot) as to which accessories you want to use with it. Besides, it is very cute.

I agree with Vulcan it is a personal choice and as you can see already, there are many opinions about what to buy. For those who have suggestedd the 2215 it is a great suggestion. The dual slots can make a difference depending on your individual needs.
The 1945 is a good model and a great size.
Janak mentioned about the size of the e805....all the Toshibas are a bit bigger than the Ipaq 19xx, 22xx, and 41xx. There is in my opinion a great deal more difference in holding an e805 compared to a 2215, as you can see as well in the toshiba e405.
As I have encouraged many times, go by a store that will allow you to hold the ppc in your hand. See if it is you, if it fits you. When it comes down to it what counts the most in owning a ppc is not what everone else thinks, but about what you find that fits you. How does it feel in your hand. A good ppc feels like an extension of yourself
It was mentioned about adding the wi fi later on instead of buying it included.
I always tell people, buy and think about what you will be doing with it 6 months from now. If 6 months from now wi fi or bt will not be big thing for you then do not buy it, if you think it will be then at least buy a model having the bt, such as the 2215 or 1945 and you can add wi fi easily enough on either model. There are currently two makers of sd wi fi cards.
Janak, you did not get time off between semester breaks?

Oh, no doubt. The width of the larger devices is what I notice most. I have no pretensions that the e805 is "small" per se. I do think it's pocketable given a good case, though.

I'm a Ph.D. student. There's no such thing as time off when you're working on a thesis. :) Plus I've been preparing for my lecture next Tuesday...
