Hey guys,

The time has come, to edit the footage of my wedding (3 60 min dv tapes) to a dvd.

What software (premier etc) would be the best for me to use...
Problems is I have NEVER, EVER edited anything in my life, so it has to be easy to use, but also needs to be edited (bits cut out, sound deleted due to talking, wobbly useless footage etc)

I don't mind using nero to whack the video_ts out at the end onto a dvd, so it doesn't need to be an all in one solution (although it would be nice)

it just has to be easy, powerful and dummy proof (no audio sync errors etc)

I know PPC is full of media savvy people, so help me out! :) thanks.

Have you considered Muvee? Just click on one of the advertising banners of it here on this site. (www.muvee.com).
You can download a trial and it's really cool and fun and EASY to use. I did do the editing with "regular" video editing programs before and it's just sooooooooo time consuming... ack. :?

Hope that helps.

I agree that muvee (http://www.muvee.com)is great. I do all of my editing with it. It's very easy to use and is veyr fast. It produces a very slick looking end product as well. What it doesn't do is give you the level of control I think you may want.

Muvee auto-edits your video and it does a great job. You pick the media files you want it to use and what music you want in the background and it does all of the editing for you. You don't have any specific control though (ie. you can't specify that a certain scene should be omitted).

If you need to go through the full editing exercise, you might want to check out Movie Maker 2 (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsXP/moviemaker/downloads/moviemaker2.asp) from Microsoft. It's free and does a pretty good job from what I've seen. If you want something more, you could check out Pinnacle (http://www.pinnaclesys.com/default.asp?Langue_ID=7).

I should point out that I haven't used either of these myself more than launching them. I had planned to learn prior to my son being born, but he came 3 weeks early. ;) So, I'm still using muvee because it's so quick and easy. Still, based on feedback and readings, I think one of these two products will fit the bill for ya.

Thanks guys,

I have thought about Muvee after seeing it on this site....
I'll download the trial and have a mess around with it :-)
Let you know how the results turn out!
Thanks.

before paying money for something, give windows movie maker a try.
it's part of windows xp.
it's truly not bad, it automatically cuts your imported video into scenes, and basic editing is also possible.
text effects, other effects etc are all possible, and it's dead simple.

it's similar to iMovie on the macintosh.

adobe premier is extremely difficult to master, and hard to understand when you're just starting, without a "premier for dummies" or "idiot's guide to premier" you'll just look at all those windows and icons and things and not have a clue what's going on.
forget about applying filters or changing brightness, play speed etc, you need a master's degree for that.

if you have bought a special graphic card for video editing, or maybe a sound blaster audigy with DV-in, chances are you have a program like PowerDirector included in the package. this program is a little harder to learn than Movie Maker, but also more powerful, since more possibilities.
