<div class='os_post_top_link'><a href='http://www.masellis.com/wait/index.htm' target='_blank'>http://www.masellis.com/wait/index.htm</a><br /><br /></div>Are you tired of seeing the same old "wait" pinwheel icon every time you try to open that huge spreadsheet on your Pocket PC? Do you ever wish that you could add a bit of customization to your device that few other users have? If so, you need to take a look at <a href="http://www.masellis.com/wait/index.htm">JuryDuty's Customized Wait Symbol</a> tools.<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/adrian/systemwait.gif" /><br /><br />All you have to do is download and install the free CAB file from the JuryDuty site, and you'll soon be looking at a cute little hamster instead of that pinwheel! Or, if you're really adventurous, you can download one of the <a href="http://www.masellis.com/wait/downloads.htm">other free wait icons </a> available, such as:<br /><br />• Smurf<br />• Tinkerbell<br />• StrongBad<br />• Sonic the Hedgehog<br />• Hourglass<br />• ...and lots more.<br /><br />Plus, there are even <a href="http://www.masellis.com/wait/create.htm">instructions </a> for how to turn just about any image into a customized wait icon. I always LOVE to customize my Pocket PCs with different color schemes and icons, so this is something I have GOT to try!

Cool!

Its about time someone developed this. You could do this in Windows since 3.1/95/98/etc... so why not Windows Mobile....

Now you just need to have another contest to see who can create the coolest ones!

The IDEA is GREAT unfortunately on my old hp Jornada 568 the animation does not look good with any of the ones that I tried. I went back to the old original.

Well, I loaded it (after backing up my device  )...

Works as advertised. My only gripe: I think that the "new" wait graphics should either have a transparent background (don't know it it is possible), or have a border around them...

I like it!!!

Steve

Edit: Now we're talkin'!!! I just converted my beanie into my new Pocket PC wait symbol!!! :way to go:

Here is another thing: The size does not have to be 32x32...

In theory, you could probably make the wait symbol a white "." if you don't want to see it at al...

This is like putting a new "Bump" sign beside the road instead of fixing the pothole.

Yeah, maybe MS should figure out how to take the wait away rather than us having to spruce-up the symbol to make it more bearable. It's not like we haven't already waited long enough for more responsive software to match the faster processors.

If you think you are going to see the wait symbol disappear anytime soon, you are sadly mistaken. Heck, even if we had speed comparable to the desktop on our devices, you would still occasionally see it...

I tried this - and it worked, but it seemed to destabilize my PPC. I had to soft reset about 4 or 5 times within an hour of installing this.

I did a restore from a backup I had just done before installing it - and voila! Everthing was stable again.

Interesting. I was wondering how this affected performance. When I first read about this, it made me think of MS Plus! and programs like it back in the Windows 98 days. If I had a nickel every time I had a user complain their system was slow and unstable and found one of these programs running...

Weird...

I've been using this all morning and have not had any problems...

Wait a second, it's not Microsoft that invented this cute hack. It's a third party. And as for me, I don't really see the wait icon that much, so I'm going to leave the regular one alone. ;)

I've been one of the ones following this closely (yes, I made "hourglass" ;) )

Download "wait off" to get a perfectly transparent wait symbol (it's not white, like shown picture). You can make it invisible with that, but I found I LIKE to know when it's loading something. There is no way to make it transparent around something, so far as anyone has found. :(

The original discussion for this program is here:

http://discussion.brighthand.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=97029&perpage=10&pagenumber=1

That thread also has "show wait symbol", a small program that will (duh) show the wait symbol for a few sec and do nothing else.

Steve, how did you get the Sprite Backup info to show on your Today screen. I have the program and do not see the option to display on my Today screen.

Also, does Owner Info X work on WM2003? Web site say 2000 and 2002?

Thanks,

Dave

Nother question for Steve ;) :

What's the No Pending Alarms plugin? I googled it and found nothing similar to what yours looks like.

And does anyone know where the wait symbol app is currently located?
