View Full Version : How can I tell what is eating up the Main Memory of my X3i?

I need to figure out what is eating up all the space of my X3i. I have used Space Detective and looked at the tab that gives me the MB used by each file. When I add up all the files for the local storage I only come up with about 9MB of space, yet I only have about 16MB of space free in main memory.

I am assuming that my databases may be eating up alot of the space, but how can I tell? Anyone have any ideas of how I can track this down?

Thanks,
-Eric

If you mean storage space, try WIMR (http://mypaq.net/mysoftware/wimr/index.shtml). Free and works great. It breaks it down by directory so it's quick to spot the main offender. I think it shows the databases, but I'm not 100% sure.

Sure seems like I eat up a bunch of memory when I do a bunch of browsing using Pocket IE. Deleting the temp files helps recover that memory.

yeah clean up your temp file. browser cache files could be several MB. .pdf reader is also kown to leave nasty .temp files.

that reader is criminally ugly.

Hey guys thanks for the help! I used WIMR and found out that I had 20+MB of temp files in my Windows directory. It wasn't showing up under Space Dective since is excludes the windows directory by defualt. I changed it to show the windows directory and found all the files. Now I have 36+MB of free space for Storage and Programs.

Thanks again,
-Eric

There's a great little program called pocket task manager, its free, I can't remember where I got it. probably freewareppc.com. I don't know if it is 03 compatible though.
all you have to do is open it and at bottom left there are two menus, one will give you three choices, pick processes and it shows you what is running, then you can choose to stop it or not.

If you are running Windows Mobile 2003, you need to go to this link

http://scarybearsoftware.com/ppc_cn_overview.html

Scroll down to the very bottom of the page and there will be two products that you can download. Choose the bottom one and choose download. Every time a WM2003 device is reset, it creates "Notification Events" in the main memory. Over time, this degrades the devices performance and boggs down the memory. Install this, then soft reset your device...

That should work IN ADDITION to clearing out Temp Internet Files in Internet Explorer.

I have this software installed already, the biggest problem was that I didn't know that there were temp files in the Windows->Profiles directory. Thanks for the tip though.
