Hello,
I have a iPAQ 1940.
Today I tried to transfer a theme to my friend and it couldnt search it. So I used the bluetooth manager and it said make sure that my friends device had bluetooth switched on.
My friends had an I mate Pocket PC Phone edition.
Why is this ?
It wont even discover it, and yes my bluetooth was on.
I even tryed with a 7650 and it didnt work ( I didnt transfer a theme it was a picture )
For some reason I recieved files from both device successfully but why cant I send? Maybe it is because of the setting so can anybody send me the exact settings they have please.

I have posted this in the iPAQ forum so can any mod delete it because this topic is supposed be here.

Is a hard reset going to solve the problem. Can anybody tell me how to hard reset a iPAQ 1940 ? please

Have you tried the "browse files on a remote device" in the connection Wizard?

To hard reset Press and hold teh Calendar and the Itask Button and press the reset button all at the same time untill the display switches off, around 3 seconds

Yes i did, it told me to insert a pass key. I do not know what it is. Then after 10 seconds it just says cannot connect or whatever.

You put in a pass key, and then it is sent to the other device and then you punch in the same code on the 2nd device and bingo you will have a bluetooth connection!

It asked the other fone before it asked mine. Then when I put a passkey on the 7650 and then on the 1940 and there was ok button only there was a cancel.

You need to tap OK in the cornner of teh Ipaqs screen to send the code. Here is a link to the owners manual it has all the info you need! (http://h200006.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/UCR/SupportManual/TPM_337112-001_rev1_us/TPM_337112-001_rev1_us.pdf)

Ok here is a step by step guide, Remenber i am useing and Ipaq 2210 so things may be different.

1.Open Bluetooth Manager
2.tap "Tools"
3.Tap "paired devices"
4. Tap "Add"
5. Now make sure bluetooth is enabled on the other device! tap the mignifying glass icon (its like the find icon, sorry i can't describe it any better!)
6. Let it search for devices, once it has finished you should spot the 7250 on the list, Tap it
7.enter a simple passkey such as "0000" then Tap OK in the corner
8.Accept the bluetooth connection on the other device and enter the passcode!
Now the Phone is added to teh Paired list!
9. next click ok to return to teh bluetooth manager
10.Next Tap "new" and then "Connect!"
11.Tap "browse files on a remote device"
12. Tap "next"
13. Tap the box where it says "Tap here to choose a device"
14. tap the device
15. Tap "finish"
And we are done All paired up and ready to send files!

Carrying on from 15
16. tap "file"
17. tap "Send a file..."
18 then select the file and it will transpher it!

This is the only way i have found to send files via bluetooth!
Hope it helps

I will check that later. I aint got a bluetooth device on me now.
Thank you, its just a tad long to send files compared to any other device.

Still my question is unanswered, why doesnt it discover when I hold on the file and then go beam ?

Tomlord

Because that way you are tring to send the file by IR (Infared IRDa) and not via Bluetooth

your wrong there under infrared it says its searching and its searching for bluetooth devices.
My device name came out there for my friends imate.

Tomlord

It does send your device name when you send via IR. When you tap Beem file your are tring to send it via IR

Listen in file explorer I hold the file i want to send with the stylus and beam comes out. I press that. It is says align ports for infrared and searching for bluetooth.

Tomlord

I don't have that option on my Ipaq.

musawi

Its not option .. go beam tell mme wat is under infrared. It should say searching or a device nameif it discovers a device.

Today I was trying to connect to my brothers P800 and it did not connect. I only recieved.
It said
The requested server is not running on the device. Please make sure the service is enabled on the device.
Now there arent any setting about BT on p800 except on auto off and discoverable.
and today i sent a file successfully with my other brothers 6600.
So this time whos problem is it ? whats wrong with ipaq? why is there BT manager so complicated.

it also says service discovery cant be discovered.

Yeah, I think the "searching" is just telling you that it's waiting for you to align the ports/searching for other IR devices.

There were times that when I was sending a file via IR to a friend that we weren't perfectly lined up so it'd add a duplicate of the device to the list saying it found another IR device...

I asked a similar question a while back and never got any responses, but I did pair up the devices, but I never looked again to see if i could transfer files.... hmm.....

why is it when I transfer to a 7650 or a 3650 or a 3660 or 6600 it sends successfuly but when I send to P800 or a XDA II. It DOES NOT and says service discovery not usccessful or something. This is seriously annoying.
