SUPER Slow Write Speed to Sandisk SD Card

I have just purchased the Sandisk 256MB SD card for my iPAQ 1940 and the write speed is super slow! Not sure what is going on cause as I understand it, SD cards write very quickly. The way I am trying to copy files over is via Windows File Explorer:

Mobile Devices --> My Pocket PC --> Storage Card

Perhaps I am doing something wrong? Please HELP!!!!

It's not you. It's the card. There's absolutely nothing you can do about it. I have a similar problem - its an unfortunate fact of life... standard sandisk cards are slow. You'll need to get an ultra II card or a panasonic (or other card) with 10MB/s write speed to get really fast write speeds.

At least read times ain't too bad ;) sorry for the bad news though...

Yes, I do not have another brand to compare performance, however, when gauged to the built in memory, there is really not much difference. I may get some flak on this, but my 1945 works flawlesslywith these cards, so there... :mrgreen:

Same here. I have two 256 MB SanDisk cards and read/write speeds are fine - comparible to the built in memory of my 1935.

Pocket Mechanic has a benchmark program that will return MB/sec of your cards. disable your virus scanner when copying files to your sd card.
this will make it a lot faster. Norton is especialy anoying for this.

Get a $12 sdcard reader for USB. This will make it flyNot necessarily true.... For me, my Sandisk SD was SLOOWWW in both the ipaq and a USB 2.0 reader attached to the USB 2.0 ports built into my Asus P4P800DLX mother board of my PC.

I have installed all my programs on the SD card rather than main mem. I tweaked the registry to save the Avantgo data and Temporary Internet files to the SD card too...

My Sandisk SD is noticeably slower than the SanDisk Ultra CF from my digital camera, and the Lexar SD I just picked up.

My hagiwara (toshiba/sandisk OEM) 128MB card is noticeably slower than my previous 64 MB sandisk card. I don't know why exactly but it's clearly obvious. Sprite's pocketbackup takes longer to complete and copying large files like mp3's/photoalbums (either by RAM to SD or using activesync) is also slower.

Lastly installing programs takes almost forever. It also takes almost a minute before the add/remove programs dialogue screen comes up :P

I'm not at home right now but the turning off Virus Scan thing sounds interesting. I have also heard that ActiveSync makes the transfer of files very slow due to its checking of files to verify that they are indeed PPC files. Is this true and if so, what other syncing program is out there that can overcome this problem?
