I have ubook but like the font and control of palm reader. I am trying to convert my txt files to pdb but the free converter at palm keeps having problems and doesn't let me. I also found pyrite publisher but it strips out the page breaks. What good converter (free) is out there to convert txt to pdb while preserving the text format. Thanks.

download a program called "handy book" from epocware direct download (http://www.epocware.com/download/se/HandyBookDemo_SE.zip). it's actually an ebook reader for symbian.
but in the package, there is handy book converter; it takes txt files and converts them to .pdb. it also has a nice feature where it automatically recognizes a number at the beginning of a paragraph, thus making an index of all the available chapters.

the converter inside the demo download works fine on windows xp, so far i haven't seen an expiry date.

on the peanut express site there is a program called palm ebook studio, which is a wysiwig editor for ebooks. it actually shows you on your screen, what the result will be on your pda. costs $29, and is available for windows and macintosh.

There are a few options:

A really cool and easy way is Poor Mojo (http://www.poormojo.org/dod.html) which is web-based cut and paste. It spits out a .pdb file you can download.

Another option that works really well is DocReader (http://mpickering.homeip.net/phpwiki/index.php/DocReader). It is windows based and converts .txt to .pdb.

Why not just use the application that PalmDigitalMedia provides?...
http://www.palmdigitalmedia.com/dropbook

Pretty much drag & drop. Very easy to use and its free.

Probably because the original reason he posted here was because that app wasn't working....

That's because when it comes to PalmReader there are two types of .pdb: the old Aportis/PalmDoc type, which is essentially just a straight text file compressed into a Palm dbase, and the newer PalmReader type, which is similar but supports Palm Markup Language for text and navigation formatting. Sure, you can take a straight .txt and toss it into DropBook but chances are it won't look so great.
