Hi. i have a iPAQ 4150 with a 256MB Sandisk card. well now its happened twice. I had some folders like MP3 and My Documents and maybe some theme files on the card. I was browsing it earlier today and it was fine but then when I was at home and was going to look at my mp3 folder, I just had all these weird folders. they hard characters but not letters and I could not open those folders. so I had to format the card using the card reader. Could it be a Virus? but I run the Anti-Virus from Air Scanner and its updated or can it be a bad card where the data goes bad after a while by itself?!?

I too have been having some strange things happen with my 4150 and SD cards. I have loaded the cards (yes, SanDisk-but I have had previous luck and no issues with SanDisk) with WMAs and they just disappear 8O . It is really strange.
I downloaded Flash Format and looked at the cards-no issue...

caddyg: Sounds more like a bad SD card than a virus, honestly, consdering that Pocket PCs don't have viruses yet...
Sandisk has a very mixed reputation when it comes to SD card reliability. Some people have no problems, others have nothing but problems.

From what it sounds like, i'd agree that you have a corrupted SD card. It's a relative common occurence with some sandisk cards. I would strongly recommend downloading storage tools/or cnetx flash format to verify your storage card. My odds are that it'd find lost chains/clusters.
Whilst your storage card may be temporarily repaired by using these programs or by reformatting your storage card, there is a high probability that this problem will recur. Also your lost files are unfortunately quite unrecoverable.
If you have kept your receipt and sandisk still comes with a 5yr guarantee i'd take it back and ask for either an exchange or preferably a refund :P

I have a 128 Mb SanDisk card and have not had any problems. I have a SandDisk Wi-Fi SD card and also haven't had any problems. Now I bought a SanDisk 256 Mb SD card. It corrupted and I returned it to SanDisk for a replacement. The new card corrupted and I was about to blame my Viewsonic V37. Before I did that though, I reformmated the card ext2 for my Zaurus SL-5500. After a few weeks it corrupted there as well. I have since bought a Lexar card. Sadly to say, I am through with SanDisk.

This seems to be quite a trend in sandisk 256MB. I'm not sure what formatting option works best but my 128MB has only corrupted once so far and a reformat did solve the problem (as yet! - fingers crossed).
I'm wondering if sandisk has an official position on why this may be happening :P
