The only choice until now has been the Loox 610, but that's not readily available in the US. However, BargainPDA reports that Asus plans to sell the A716, which looks very similar to the Loox 610 -- I get the feeling that it's just an OEM version of the same device. (We <a href="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=21247">linked to a review</a> of the Loox 610 a few months ago.)<br /><br /><img src="http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/images/hansberry/2003/20031118-ausua716.jpg" /><br /><br />"The PocketPC features built in WiFi and Bluetooth wireless connectivity, as well as both CompactFlash and SDIO expansion slots, a 400 MHz processor, 64 MB RAM, and 64 MB ROM. Since the A716 hasn't officially launched yet, definite pricing information isn't available, however it is expected to be about $500. The A716 will mark the first true PocketPC to offer two built-in wireless options and two expansion slots on the U.S. market. The only other dual-slot dual-radio PocketPC is the Fujitsu Loox 610BT/WLAN, which is not available in North America. Curiously, the A716 looks nearly identical to the 610BT/WLAN, possibly indicating some common heritage."

Did you forget about the Mio 558 (http://65.115.69.88/mio/products_mio558.asp)?

PROportable, an online retailer that sells several ASUS Pocket PCs, says it will have the MyPal A716 in stock soon. The cost will be $499 with free shipping as well as a copy of the game Anthelion.

If any of you missed it in the holiday rush, here's my article from last week on the the A716 , which has a bit more info that the BargainPDA one:

Yes, I did... although I don't believe that's sold/supported in the US either.

I believe the antenna is solely for WiFi.

In testing various devices, I've found that handhelds without an antenna have a noticeably shorter Wi-Fi range than ones with them. The antenna does add to the size, but it's worth it, at least IMHO.

Hmmm... Maybe I bought my X3i too early, the A716 has all I wanted in a unit. WiFi, CF & SDIO (BlueTooth is not a requirement for me at the moment). I will have to see if the local company that sells the MYPAL Pocket PC A620 will also be carrying this A716...

Hmmm...

Brighthand.com reports:

"The first word of the A716 came in November, and a few days ago a web store named PROportable said it hoped to have this model in stock in the near future. However, an ASUS spokesperson said today this model won't actually be released in the U.S. until late February. According to a spokesperson for PROportable, the delay is caused at least partially by the fact that this model has not yet received FCC approval, a necessity for any wireless device. "

So much for getting it in January.

How does the size compare to the iPaq 2200 or 4150?

Here's a photo from the review linked to in the first post in this thread:

Bottom line: Bigger than the 2200 and WAY bigger than the 4150! 8O

FirstLOOX.org reported the LOOX610 does NOT have SDIO. Since these two devices appear to share the same hardware, it's likely not SDIO but just an SD slot. Also, which BT stack is used... Rapport or Widcomm?

Cheers

Short of the 194x I don't think there is anything smaller than a 4150!! After carrying a 3830 for a year I don't think this unit is really that large.
