<a href="http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/handheldiPAQ/us/download/19917.html">http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/handheldiPAQ/us/download/19917.html</a><br /><br />HP has released EUU4 for the iPAQ 3800 and 3900 series devices that are still running Pocket PC 2002. You do not install this on devices upgraded to Windows Mobile 2003.<br /><br />Fixes and enhancements include:<br />• Pocket Calendar did not display multiday appointments that span over the end/beginning of a month correctly in various views. <br />• PPP authentication failed when connecting through a LAC/CHAP - LNS/CHAP renegotiation. <br />• Pocket IE on PocketPC did not recognize the change in Content-Type when an ASP (or ASPX)page used Response.ContentType to specify a custom application/extension. <br />• TAB on SIP now properly shifts focus when tapped.<br />• Caret no longer moves position after task switch in Inbox. <br />• IMG tag SRC attribute now supports relative URL longer than 30 characters in PocketIE. <br />• Enter key submits HTML forms in PocketIE. <br />• Improved performance when saving an RTF in Word. <br />• Low/critical battery notification icon disappears as expected once battery is charged fully. <br />• Resolves cross domain security issue. <br /><br />It is an 8MB download and installs into ROM. Currently, only English is available. Other languages should follow shortly. Once you apply the update, you should immediately back up your device and not attempt to restore a pre-EUU4 backup. Unlike full ROM updates, EUUs do not require hard resets.<br /><br /><b>Update:</b> This is for the non-bluetooth models. If you have a 3x7x model, you should wait for the EUU that has been tested with your device.

Does anyone know if these updates are going to be made availabe for upgraded 3600-series machines?

Take note: according to the webpage, this is only for iPAQs 3850 and 3950 running Pocket PC 2002. Anyone who 1) has upgraded to Windows Mobile Pocket PC 2003 or 2) owns an iPAQ 3870 or 3970 should not try to install this update!

I thought that might be worth mentioning...

Thank you for mentioning that. I was about to install it to my 3970.

In case they come out with EUU4 for 3870,3970, does anyone know, after instaling the update how much more ROM this uses?

I'd be pretty tickled if the only thing this fixed was the character limit on IMG tags. That one thing, it seems, makes browsing forums like this one and Brighthand a misery of empty image placeholder boxes and the resulting side-scrolling (often due to ALT text length within boxes, but not always).

However, I've but a humble 3835. Any notion as to what difference there is between a 3835 and a 3850? I thought they were pretty much identical. The 3870 has Bluetooth®, but not the 3850, right? This is my one device now, the Casio CF slot having completely bit the dust, so risking a wrong ROM flash is not a good plan. Still, it'd be nice to have the above fixed, plus that Tab thing too. Pesky, that one.

How timely of HP. Aren't most of these devices dinosaurs in PPC years? I know I'm about ready to phase out my 3835.

According to the Gadgeteer's review of the iPAQ 3850 (http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/compaq-ipaq-3850-review.html):
So here I am one full week later, after purchasing the new iPAQ 3835. Side note: for those of you that don't understand Compaq's weird numbering system, the 3835 is the exact same model as a 3850.

So, I believe that it should work without any problems.
Has anyone owning an iPAQ 3835 tried the EUU4 update? Please let us know if it works...

I don't see anything in there worth the hassle of the upgrade. My iPAQ is working fine.

Well let me be selfish atd wonder where's the update for the 2210 series? The 5550 has had 2 already!

Thank you very much manyware! I thought that might be the difference:

From what I understand, the difference in numbers just denotes that the 3835 was purchased online, versus a 3850 like you would find in a brick and mortar store.
(that from the same article on Gadgeteer)

So, off with me then to download this puppy. What a relief, I hope. Having all inline images back when browsing forums will be a huge relief, as I simply don't bother on a PC. My Acer notebook has no such problem with forums, though brighthand has crashed it a few times with infinite windows opening in a cascade, on attempting to close one... but I'd say 99.99% of my forum crawling is done using PIE, and the tiny remainder is simply because I happen to do a bit every once in a while when doing Windows Updates, something I don't even know why I do, since I don't really use the thing for web stuff, nor email at all.

They say on pocketnow's announcement of this update that a backup will not be necessary, but there's no way I'd risk that. So first a couple of kinds of backup.

I'd love to see the original post with acronyms translated.

They aren't common lingo for many of us.

That'll help power-user / non-techies know if the install is worth it.

Well, if you don't know the acronym, you aren't having the problem.

EUU4 - End User Update #4
LAC/CHAP - LNS/CHAP are different forms of authentication
RTF is Rich Text Format, the format it saves Word files in, even though it uses DOC as the extensions.
ASP is Active Server Pages
SIP is Soft Input Panel.

The rest are not acronyms. SRC for example is short for "source" in HTML (hyper text markup language)

Thanks Ed for extending my edjimucashin.

For what it's worth, I knew RTF !

I figured "if you have to ask, you don't need the update."

I remain,

A happy COMPAQ iPAQ 3845 user.

From the inside this update looks more like a generic update for any PPC 2002 Premium-equipped Pocket PC (with 32MB of flash ROM) so I'll see if it makes my good ol' Casio E-200 any younger (or useless) :)

Well, if you look at their support page for the 5550 (http://h18000.www1.hp.com/support/files/handheldiPAQ/us/download/19764.html), their update address only the WiFi and thumb scanner (both items not supported by the 2210) as well as BT (which is already available as a separate patch for the 2210).
