Now here's a beautiful set of about 10-15 high-quality pictures. Prepare to ...

Gizmodo also helpfully reminds me that this Pocket PC has a 1.1MP camera. Anyone else want one too?

Nice! 8O

I would rather see a proper full thumb keyboard rather than just the number pad.

Still... :rock on dude!:

It's definitely a very cool little device. It's on the right track. The slide out T9 keyboard seems like a total waste of a great feature. Phone dialing can very easily be carried out on screen like existing Pocket PC Phone Edition devices. Having it on a slide out keyboard doesn't seem to have any positive effect.....Now make the keyboard a full qwerty keyboard and it changes the whole ball game!!

Try doing it blindly, Dave. It's HARD. ;) This makes it more practical as a phone, IMHO.

You know guys, this so far seems to be the ultimate PPC Phone edition.
If the specs are correct, this little thing has an additional 128MB 'multimedia' storage, 1.1MP camera (with flash!), SDIO, the flip keypad and....
BLUETOOTH + GPS!!!

I thought that the xdaII was worth waiting, but this little marvel's got my vote :)

No QWERTY, no sale! I like the direction of a sliding keyboard and BT though.

This won't be for me, since I am still not convinced by a phone with a touchscreen. That's why I didn't buy a P900 or a Treo 600, and that's why I won't go for this one. I want my phones to be small, and durable, and able to reside in my pockets (with change, keys, etc) without additional protection. But this looks like a very nice progress for a Phone Edition.

Thank you. I was beginning to think that I was the only one who felt as you do.

A flip is far more sensible than a slide-out because it protects the screen

Otherwise this is a very cool device - but i think i'll wait for the Asus A8100

With most people dialing from their massive phone/address books (and or hitting the redial, a few taps at best) I think the slide out dialing pad is just redundant. Give us what we can really use. The phone is exceptional in design though. Small like the Treo600 with the flexability and functionality of MS Mobile. Not to mention the bells and whistles. They need two models, and I would think to imagine they will fix that mistake (or oversight) soon enough - LG arent dummies :-D

What's with the bucket of ice? Are they having overheating issues with the batteries?

I wish someone could explain the whole camera phenomenon to me, I just don't get it. Now my 19 year old sister would probably go for the dinky pictures these things produce, but no me.

In fact I hate the cameras so much I chose my Siemens S56 over the Nokia 3650 or Sony Ericsson T616 bluetooth phones because of it. Why waste time manufacturing such a poor quality camera into a phone? I have no problem

If I want a camera, I'll by a nice 3 mega pixel or something...

I do not need a pull on keyboard as long as fitaly will work on it.

Not impressed. Now what would impress me are the PPC/Phones the size of the Ipaq 2200 or even the 4150. Then, let's talk!

Actually I don't think it's a PPCPE device. It's just plain Windows Mobile 2003. At least the screenshots do not show phone edition features. But still it's a nice device. Is anybody aware of any other 2.8 inch screen device? As far as I remeber ASUS will be 3.5 inch, so it will be definietly bigger.

I like the slider concept, would prefer a full keyboard, but I don't think the unit is really wide enough to support what I consider a usable keyboard anyway.

However, I think we all know the chances of any of us in the USA ever getting to use this phone are probably about the same as one of us winning the lottery :( .

Step in the right direction with the 2.8" screen though. :) It's good to see something a little different on the PPC front.

Try carrying one around for a few days. :) It's incredibly convenient if you just want to take a "sudden picture" of something random. MMS makes it even easier to send it to someone.

And considering that they don't substantially affect the cost of size, it's not really a loss even if you never use it.

I never thought the camera would be of use either...until I got hit by a car while parked at my local Target.

I snapped off a couple picts on my Nokia 3650 just for documentation purposes.

A couple days later they came in very handy as her story changed...to I was backing out (which is tough to do when my truck wasn't even running). E-mail'd the agent the pictures, and there were no more questions...

I don't think I've used the camera since, but its very nice in those types of situations...

Same here. My car was broken into when it was parked (at all places) at a body shop waiting for other repairs. I wanted to take photos of it... then I remembered my trusty i700 and did just that. The quality was good enough to see the full extent of the damage. Also good for taking quick pics of my baby son to email to family, etc etc.

The camera isn't a necessity, but it sure can be fun to have in the right situations.

Thank you. I was beginning to think that I was the only one who felt as you do.

That's the surest way to get scratches on it. Take a look at coins and see how many scratches they have.

No thanks.

My change is in my wallet, my keys in a pouch of their own (I don't want to loose them thru a hole they will inevitably dig).

Now don't forget a few things:

The SonyEricsson t600 series has a sh!tty 200*300 (approx.) rez
it uses a sh!tty CMOS sensor which specialists (and your eyes) will tell you produce crappy images; every quality digicam nowadays uses a CCD captor
this LG PPCPE PDA has a CCD captor
and rez is 1600% that of the aweful t6xx
it has a flash
both the flash and lens are on the same swivel head

Now that's the first quality and efficient digicam on a PDA!!!

There ain't no such thing as "plain" WM03: it's either WM03 for PPC or WM03 for Smartphone (à la Motorola MPx200)

Oh yes, these pix show plenty of phone edition features: take a close look on Microsoft's pages for both platforms you'll notice that this LG uses WM03 for PPC!! (THREE hints: only WM03 for PPC has a start button, a soft keyboard and a close box!!)

I think what he saying is that it is a WM2003 device but not a Phone Edition. Much the same as a Thera is a Pocket PC 2000 device but not a Phone Edition device. It is using proprietary software for all the phone functions.

Jason Gordon, a Microsoft Mobile devices product manager, showed something like this at the tour stop in Salt Lake City last week. He said it was available only in China at the time. But the one he showed may have had a keyboard instead of a numeric pad.

Interesting design- close to perfection

1. needs QWERTY Keyboard- Look at Treo 600
2. Windows PPC '03 - nice touch
3. GPS - Would be a PLUS
4. GSM capable?
5. What is the battery life of this thing?
6 Ram- The industry needs to push the memory capabilities of these devices. There are 512 MB SD cards available. 1GB SD cards exist and will be available soon, 6GB CF cards- why are we still messing with 128MB of Ram in PPC's ?

In regards to phone cameras over the past summer in NYC a young boy was almost abducted he manage to break away and snap a couple of pics with his cell phone of the perv trying to kidnap him. Cops got the guy a few moments later.

I keep watching for WANDA by TI, I wish anyone would come out with everything represented: WiFi, BlueTooth, SDIO, GPS, Camera and Cel Phone. Throw in a decent amount of built in memory... 128 or 256MB.

All cel phones are required to have a GPS for E911 beginning in 2004.

I personally like the keypad, I tried to use the Treo and the keys are too small to be useful. The keypad makes it easier to dial than on screen dialing. If I wanted a QWERTY keyboard I would get an HPC rather than a PPC.

I had a look at that device, it definitely did not have a qwerty keyboard. I wonder how that affects its use in Chinese.

Actually, they are just required to provide location services - some providers are going with interpolation from signal strength after triangulating cell towers.

I am waiting for a Bluetooth/GPS/Digital cell flip phone. I want the GPS to be a Bluetooth service that my notebook or iPAQ can access. I don't need to combine my PocketPC with phone, except via Bluetooth.
