Audio volume control

Just upgraded my 3850 (I know it's old but hey I love it and it works for me) to 2003 and am loving the improved performance....except one thing. I prefer to keep all the beeps and clicks to a minimum so I used to have the speaker switched off. Previously when I then used headphones to listen to audio files through windows media player it's volume control worked independently.

now if I switch off the speaker I can't hear anything...can anyone help?

Wait... that's weird. I never had the "dual volume" functionality on my iPAQ 3870 running 2002. What I did to work around the problem you describe was to go into Sounds and Notifications in Control Panel, and turn off all the sounds there. Are you sure you didn't do that in the PPC2002 days?
