I am looking to get a program that makes my transcriber work better. Right now I have a lot of trouble getting it to recognize my handwriting when I am trying to write something.

(I have the setting set all the way to quality and I have gone through the alphabet and told the machine how i write my letters at this point).

I was looking for an aftermarket program that could help me out. Right now I have found a program called "Calligrapher" off the windows mobile site that says it is supposed to enhance the transcriber feature.

Does anyone have any experience with this program or know of another one that works good. This one is 30 dollars so I am hesitant to download it unless it is worth the money.

Thanks --

Calligrapher and Transcriber are very closely related. I had never had success with either Transcriber or earlier versions of Calligrapher, but the latest Calligrapher version is working great for me.

I have not played with the character shape settings at all, just left them as default. I've had to change the way I write a couple of letters to help with the recognition, but that's about it.

Why not just download the trial and see if you like it.

There are several different third party applications for entering text, I also like Fitally, but I'm pretty sure there are no other handwriting ones.

Transcriber and Calligrapher are essentially the same program. The guys that wrote Transcriber, wrote Calligrapher. The difference is the the character recognition speed and quality.

Transcriber is OK at what it does. However, I have found that you will have better luck if you observe the following:

1. DO NOT modify the letter shape recognition info. This requires more RAM and processor time when recognizing. You're better off not doing any "training" per se and going with the out of the box feel.

2. Are right handed vs. left handed. I've noticed that both Transcriber and Calligrapher have a problem with the way left hander's write text. It has to do with the way you hold your wrist, the stylus, and the amount of pressure placed on the touch screen when writing.

3. Use the latest version of Calligrapher. Version 7 is faster, smaller, and has a number of different recognition quality updates that make it worth the money to purchase either an upgrade or a full license.

I use Calligrapher on all of my Pocket PC's and wouldn't run a PPC without it. Its a great app. When you install it, it WILL replace Transcriber, so don't go looking for it unless and until you uninstall Calligrapher from your device. Unfortunately, this makes it impossible to compare the two side by side on the same device at the same time.

Good luck! I hope this helped!

Errmm.. is this for Calligrapher or Transcriber? With Transcriber, I HAD to modify the letter shape recognition info in order to speed up the recognition speed and quality. I never used Calligrapher, though, so I have no comment on that.

Both actually; BUT the recognition algorithm in Calligrapher IS much better. In about 99% of all cases, leaving the system defaults alone and NOT training is the way to go.

However, your milige may vary. If Transcriber works better with your mods, then you did the right thing, of course. :D

If you use Transcriber, then I would go ahead and download the Calligrapher trial and give it a shot. I think you'll be much happier with it than Transcriber, even with your training mods.
